Getting ready to do a filter change on a 2003 Jeep wrangler 4.0 w/ the 42RE auto trans. Just wanted to see if anyone knew which fluid went in it before I went and poured regular ATF in it vs the vehicle marked ( ford chrysler ect) stuff off the shelf at advance or should I just come off the hip and buy it from the dealer

Most likely ATF +3 is what is recommended. That's for Chrysler trannies.

Did you read the owner's manual? :flipoff2:

ATF+4 is actually what the FSM recommends for the 42RE...

the t-case will handle pretty much anything...but I'd stick with the recommended fluid (or something like AMSOil ATF) for the tranny...

Yeah, and you can only get +4 from the dealer = $$$$$$

Hell, I'm running Dexron III in mine, it makes it shift harder, but it can cause clutch chatter on a non-modified trans.
