Now that's impressive...

"Jeep Wrangler sales are insane right now, with the vehicle scoring its best month ever in April at 29,776 sales...The Wrangler is so hot right now that it nearly outsold the Toyota Camry, a mainstay at the top of the vehicle sales chart, and a family sedan that Toyota sold 29,848 copies of in April. That’s a difference of only 72 sales between the Camry and the Wrangler last month."

case in point are the JK sales. Most any other vehicle, once a new body style comes out dealerships have to drastically discount any leftover models. While I am sure you can get a "deal" on a JK right now I highly doubt it's anywhere close % wise as compared to say if a Camry was redesigned.

I ordered a JLU Rubicon for my wife a few weeks back. while at the dealership I watched 2 JKs leave. my salesman said the JK sales haven't taken a hit at all with the JLs coming out.

Considering the JK is already pimped out for a serious off-road platform who would want to pay more for a JL that has no increased off-road capability? Being by the beach I am seeing a lot of JLs and the stock trim is already ripped away.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the JK continues to sell at the same rate before any JL was released.

Am I the only one really surprised at the lack of an 'update' the JL received from the JK? Previous models have had major changes, this one - not so much. I guess they were afraid to take a risk when demand is so high on them... but they also wanted to lure JK owners into upgrading and keep it 'fresh'.

Personally, I'll never buy one because of all the electronic crap they put on new cars these days. We bought a 2017 Kia Sedona and its like a friggin space ship inside.

It looks like my 01 Wrangler will be the 'newest' car I'll ever buy for myself.

The major updates are around technology more-so than anything else. Soft tops don't have zippers anymore, a few other things.

Where the bigger changes will be seen are when the other engine options become available and the truck comes out.

For us, my wife was ready to replace her GC Overland and wanted a JLU Rubicon. She rarely asks for anything so she gets it. It will be interesting to compare it to my JKU Rubicon side by side.

JLs hit the lot a few months back but in limited quantity. JKs ceased production last week. I agree that probably the main reason JKs are still selling so well is that you go to a dealership the ratio of JKs to JLs is 5:1 in some locations. More to choose from. Heck, the JLs are only being sold in 4 colors right now - red, white, gray, black.

I ordered my wife's JL because she wanted a blue one. you can order some different colors if willing to wait for the build. We were told 6-8 weeks. Next week will be week 6 for us.

Lots of reasons not to get a new JL. They have the auto engine start stop. Everytime you stop at a stop sign or light the engine shuts off. Also they have gone back to a front axle disconnect. It is more of a soccer mom jeep than ever before.

I hope most of this is a typo. if not please explain the engine shut off as you know it.

Just like high end Mercedes and BMWs when you come to a light and hold the brake, the engine shuts off and the starts again when you let off. Central Axle Disco is also true except for Rubicons. It is very much geared towards to soccer mom/Mall crawler crowd. Also, I have not looked into it but was told they have rack & pinion steering. Not sure if that's true or how it would work.

My question is will we see the prices come down on the used JKs in a few years? With so many being sold, the used market would certainly seem to be flooded in the near future with nice JKs. To get a reasonable 12+ model is still $23k+ these days.

I started laughing at the use of the word "update" in the same sentence as anything related to a Wrangler. It's a Wrangler, so you're not buying sophistication or refinement. I almost fell out of my chair when I learned they had started using coil springs.

As mentioned when you pull up and apply the brake to come to a stop the engine shuts off. When you release the brake and apply the throttle it restarts. Same as the grand cherokees. Probably has a soft switch to disable but has to be pushed everytime you get in the vehicle. Trying to get every little tenth of a mpg average they can to meet carb standards.

The auto shutoff is not on the manual gear box JLs

It's geared towards squeezing every fraction of a mpg out of it with the start stop and axle disconnect.

My cousin has a GC with the start stop and it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. And I believe it can be deactivated just has to be done at every startup. I wonder how these auto stop start systems will work as engines get older and take longer to start.

Good to know. Something to get used to. Since our GC Overland is a 2012 it doesn't have this feature.

Its this new thing they started on the 96 Wrangler. Rarest model year.

Ford has had the auto stop on a lot of their vehicles for 3-4 model years now. Wife’s Edge has it but it’s been turned off since day 1.

I have been under a JL Rubicon poking around, the one I looked at had the disconnect on the front axle just like the base model that I have been under. They have a traditional steering gear box, but the pump is electric.

I heard somewhere that Jeep has not run a factory sale or incentive on Wranglers in a very long time, if ever, because the demand is always so high. Pretty much the only US car like that. I'd believe it. I'd imagine being a Jeep salesman has got to be about the easiest car sales job ever, aside form dealing w/ a lot of potential douches. But's it'd be the same selling Bimmers or any high end car too.

The auto-shut down thing is becoming pretty common. A coworker has this on his car, maybe its a hybrid... Nissan?... anyway one thing that sucks on his is that when the motor isn't running, of course the A/C compressor isn't either. So if you're stuck in a lot of stop and go on a hot day it can bring the suck.

Corvette. Never any rebates or sales. Some other new cars/trucks as well, like the Colorado/Canyon when they were released in 2015 and demand was high.
