Wrapping Header

Is it worth the time and money to wrap the header of a stock street XJ? Just bought a new header and before I install it in looking for opinions. I figure it can't hurt.

wrapping headers is good...

Makes power. Keeps under hood temps down

Wrapping headers is bad...

wrap hold moisture and rusts headers out

Wrapping stainless headers probably good again!

I'm with ol'jeeps, all that I have seen done wound up rusting out very early.

Honda Civic owners claim 50+HP, idk maybe worth changing headers every 2 years in that case....

This is on a 100% street Jeep. I'm only doing it to help cool the engine bay. I'm trying to make a super reliable, well running vehicle for my daughter's first car. Financially it's definitely not worth it, but if it's not off-road and only rainy day weather and such will I still worry as much? The header only cost $100, I have over half of that in wrap!

If you haven't installed the header yet, you could use some high heat paint then wrap it.

However, it's gone how many miles with the manufacturers header before you swapped it? Have you had heat issues? There are thousands of Cherokees out there with out it. I think these things have more electrical issues then anything. May just check all the sensor connections & go with it.

Besides, we all go through the first car thing. It's a right of passage to adulthood & leaning what to do when it happens.

Don't bother. You're not going to notice any difference on a low output engine like that, and I doubt its going to get driven hard enough to matter. Unless your foot is to the floor, the cheapest way to make power is to push the pedal harder. If you're trying to spend money to make power, there are better ways to pick the low hanging fruit then wrapping a low output non-turbo engine. If you're trying to reduce underhood temps on a stock engine with a new header, ceramic coating would be a good choice instead of header wrap. Not a cheaper choice though..

Well after scraping the wrap idea I began installing the new header. Ask was going well except for 1 bolt that is impossible to get to. I'm considering removing the motor or maybe the spare tire to get to it...

On that model I think its not the spare but you have to loosen the dash/steering column to get at the odd bolt ( not remove just loosen) that should fix your issue.
