Goldmine Trail Step 1 Evaluation 28 January 2012

Summary:
1. This write-up covers geographical Areas Of Interest (AOI) that need to be addressed to allow parts of the Goldmine trail and connector trails to be opened up legally for OHV.
2. The Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) and Geographic Latitude and Longitude (Lat/Long) were the two geographic coordinate systems used. A probable error in range of up to 25 meters should be taking into consideration when plotting these points. Look for the terrain feature associated with the grid when plotting for more precise accuracy.
3. Pictures of the AOI’s will be attached separately in a folder labeled “Goldmine Pics 28 Jan 12”. Use the last two numbers of the photo name to identify the photo. A Photo Bucket account is currently in the works or contact me.
4. Point of contact for this write up is Chet, SFGator on NC4X4 and pvt1978@hotmail.com for my email.

AOI 14: There is a little more than just the guard rail. There is a spring head in the way of the exit to dickey bell. The solution for this is yet to be determined. This area in particular will need another visit to make some good solutions.

Thanks Chet for all your work and technical organization on this. Look forward to getting the map together to reflect these AOI.

On the second hike there is another trail up from the saddle that might meet Dicky Bell that might be a better trail then the Gold Mine trail from the saddle. We will have to hike in and hike it back to see where it goes. Just a thought.
