WTB: Good Car for kids 1st car

Looking for something for my kid for a good first car. Something good on gas but safe. Ideally I'd like to be around 10k, but can potentially go up to 15 for the right car

anybody got anything?
 
2014 Audi A6 TDI, 140k miles, needs motor mounts and a rear control arm bushing, but super solid and would drive from here to Alaska at 40mpg and 100mph. Real good condition, all the bells and whistles, AWD, tons of safety features. $13k.

but on a serious note jeep liberty, np231, v6 good for 300k, cheap, safe, can be had for a few grands worth of favors from the old widow down the street

So because it an Audi it needs about 6k lol

An a6 is a little big also. But safety features are a big plus.

Never realized a liberty could go that long. Ideally want some newer safety features for them but going to keep this in mine.
 
Well there’s this so when you ground them for being after curfew or whatever you can have fun.

Have another baby on the way so trying to free up some monthly income. Looking to sell my 2012 STI Hatch, 118k miles. Owned it for 2.5 years. Engine, clutch, turbo and related items were replaced at 85k miles by Capital Subaru in Greenville just before purchase. Oil changed religiously every 5k miles with Motul oil and Subaru OEM Filters. Car has an accident showing on car fax from previous owner. Looks like fender liner rubbed tire at some point afterwards. Also has a small scratch/dent on passenger door. Interior is in great shape, one small stitch showing wear on passenger seat. Heated...

Or there’s this so they can drive a semi truck and be safe with a bit of work. 2 wd so you shouldn’t have to worry about them wheeling it. (Much)

I want that STI for myself, but for my daughter probably not a good idea :laughing:

I have thought about XJ's but really want something more modern and better on gas for them, but still debating it

My older son has been driving a 99 XJ since he was 15. He's driven it all over and it's only really started having issues in the last 6 months or so with overheating when he's driving back from school at UNCW. Still trying to figure out that one.

Check head casting numbers, if it’s a Clearwater head it’s probably got a crack between cylinder 3 and 4 valve seat

0331 is the problem head and came on late 99-01 engines

We figured it out last night. The lower radiator hose is bulged and had a pinhole leak that only leaks when it is hot. He's slowly losing coolant that way. We were worried about the head but compression test was fine, oil and all fine, no white smoke, doesn't have a 0331 head. I've honestly never seen an 0331 head on anything but 00-01 either.
 
MkVI Jetta 11-18. Should be able to find them
Under 100k miles in the 10-12k price range in multiple trim levels. The 2.0t engines have been good. We put 180k on one with regularly scheduled maintenance.
