I am going to be replacing the complete AC system (less the evap core) in my 1997 XJ. I don't typically work on AC system, I wanted to check with a pro and see if there are any tips and tricks I should be aware of.

Compressor is cooked, so I will be replacing the compressor, orifice, condenser, dryer. The system is empty, my plan is to swap it out and bring it to a shop for vac and recharge.

Anything I should be aware of? Do you lube the O-rings? Any torque specs for hoses I should be aware of or is good-n-tite plenty?

Thanks!

You lube the o rings with the same oil you use in the compressor be careful when taking the lines apart to not strip them or twist the lines. If you have it apart for a while i like to seal the open lines and condenser and evaporator to make sure nothing gets in them i put the system back together. Also i like to pull a vacuum on the system for 30 mins before recharging to make sure all the moisture is out of the system.
(User beware of advice i am not a pro but i have charged a few hundred ac systems over the years also i haven't slept in a Holiday express in several years) lol..

I'd spend the money and get a gauge set and vac pump. As soon as you get it back together, the evap is going to spring a leak or something stupid. They're pretty easy and cheap to fix if you have the tools.

I wouldn’t waste my money replacing the condenser if I weren’t replacing the evap. They share similarities and if you think trash is in one it’s in both. Also is the compressor toast or is the clutch bad? One trashes the system the other doesn’t. But seeing it’s empty I’m assuming the worse, definitely buy a gauge set and a cheap vacuum pump.
