Im trying to replace my wheel bearing and axle bearing in my brothers 98 XJ, not sure if this is a common problem, or just a simple error on my part.

Im trying to remove the hub, Im using a 1 1/2 inch socket and Ive got a pry bar for leverage and its just not budging, I had the same problem with my 89. I don't know what to do at this point, Ive got a spare d30 front I can take some parts from.

Anyone know what I need to do? PM me or gimme a call @ 336 430 7842

Thanks alot
Eric

Already did the PB blaster, lol 2 days in a row, and yeah we have that hammer. Just have some bad luck I think. Actually just broke the socket wrench we had, thank god all our tools are craftsman. My next plan (worst come to worst) Ill saws all the whole damn thing off and just replace it with my spare lol.

I had the same problem on my '97

I smacked the hub ears (where the 12 point bolt passes through) With a sledge clockwise and counter clockwise till I got a bit of play then used a slide hammer. Its most likely seized on the lip on the outer where the hub rests, so if you can break that corrosion up it should be easier to pull the thing out.

Using a slide hammer definitely risks tearing up the bearings. Mine was fine, YMMV.

Once its out, slather that lip and the hub lip with anti-seize before reassembly.

Yeah well I don't have a slide hammer, I can get one if I need to though.

Ill give that a try and get back to you, thanks.

try using and impact gun, the hammering action takes care of it if you have a decent gun, if not get a 1/2 breaker bar, bought mine @ advance for around twent or thirty bucks, just watch out when it breaks loose!

No air tools here, would have to take the axle to a buddy's shop for that.

I totally misread your post, if its the spindle nut that won't come off, just go buy a 3/4" drive slide bar and socket for the proper size. Shouldn't cost that much, and you can put a pipe over it as a cheater. With the right length,a beefy socket, and the proper application of enough weight you'll generate far more torque than most impact guns could ever dream of- and unlike the sawzall method you'll have the tools for the job next time.

I had one that was so seized on that had to heat it the nut with an acetylene torch... nothing would take it off... Other than that, year 36mm socket and long pipe.. 1/2 inch drive atleast.

I didn't realize how old this was... ever get it off?

seems everyone had the same problem i broke 3 breaker bars, ratchet, cheap impact, and almost 3 knuckles. i tried for 3 hours to get it off. it just takes time. pb blaster and a day or 2 is what it took me. ended up with a 1/2 driver wlded to the socket and a pipe about 6ft long.
