XJ Cherokee cages?

There is not a single triangulated node in that cage, which means its pretty poorly designed. I call bullshit on the "lengthy R&D process", because someone would have noticed that nothing is triangulated at all. Or maybe they just know nothing about the most basic aspects of cage design, I don't know. I can tell you that cage is adding very little protection and probably absolutely nothing to unibody stiffness.

You can add some extra tubing and correct some of the design shortcomings though, at least partially.

Have someone like Scott at Metalwerx to make a hybrid cage. Internal cages in an XJ make a small cab even smaller

Yes, that's right. now Junior says he wants an Exo cage. Still looking for a weld in kit though. Don't have funds to have I built for us.

I'd get a quote I looked at the same cage you posted above and with upgrading to dom, all the extras I wanted and shipping I figured it would be close to the cost of a hybrid cage

I'd stay away from D&C. The guy Snoopy on pirate has been called out time and time again for legitimate wrong doings to customers. I had a T&J performance in my blue xj years ago and liked it for the most part. I'll agree with others, custom is the way to go.

I'll add to that the S&W cage for xjs is not worth the money AT ALL. They give you 1.625 what looks like fence tube. Notches are all wrong and the wall thickness is something like .095.

I had an exo cage on my ZJ, it added a ton of weight, but it did a good job of protecting me. I went exo because an internal cage would have made it way too tight in there.

T&J is a decent cage for a start. All of the cage kits are IMHO a way for guys to get started. Most of the people I know that have used the kits bought them and then added to them to their liking. I would also recommend you consider a hybrid cage. A pillars are outside the front windshield protecting it and the b and c post come through the roof and tie into the "halo" that protects the roof edges. It also give big guys more room in a tight cab. Which has already been mentioned.

True. Miller rocked his T&J cage for years. My blue one had one and I purchased based on what I saw Millers cage go through. When I backhalved the blue xj it did give me a good blank canvas to build off of.

I think thats the only way to consider them. They're certainly not complete from a design standpoint, not without proper triangulation.

Why do you buy a product knowing it has to be fixed before it can be used?

Richard I did the D and C as you know and personally if I were to do it again I would bend my own tubes. D and C's notching is off and really didnt fit as well as I had hoped. It was my first shot with the cage thing though. Pretty soon I'm adding a lot of structural components to it. with the note of taking up space I didn't have that problem, but I am 5' 9" so he may have an issue with that vs me having one.
