I tried to crank the jeep today and all it did was beep, did that 3 times, on the fourth it cranked and then cut off. the fifth time i gave it gas but i had to hold it there so it wouldn't cut off, now it cranks and runs fine. this is the second time this has happened, other time was months back. any idea?

have you tried to prime the system? my jeep usually needs 3 key cycles before it can crank. for mine it means the fuel is draining bank into the tank.

I havent, but that sounds like a smart idea, may have been why it cranked after a couple times

signs that your cps is going? Signs that your tps is going? Usually if you have to hit the gas to keep it running and then it shuts off when you let go of the gas..menas your tps is gone and needs replacing.

Leaning towards TPS myself. Also check fuel pressure at the rail when the problem happens.

My money's on a flaky battery or bad battery cables, especially the one between the battery and the starter.

Had the same problem lately, had to redo my battery cables, haven't had an issue since.

I had an issue similar to this on my 97 and I tested the battery it was ok than I cleaned up the battery ables with a wire brush real good and haven't had an issue since even with it sitting long periods of time.

You know..come to think of it.. he did say it beeped at him. For whatever reason I translated that as it was turning over but wouldn't run. (WTF?) If it wasn't turning over then these guys are probably correct about the battery cables.
