I was looking and reading up on ways to keep the engine temp down, letting heat escape, etc.... i really dont want to hack up the hood and install vents, unless i came across some i really liked. but i saw where you can shim the back of the hood a inch or so to allow the heat to escape there. anyone done this? think its functional? safe? thanks and

Call Brandon at Rides.. He did his....

I have seen where people have put something like half inch square tube in between the hinge and hood. From what I have seen and read it does work and is safe, but I don't like the look of the lines not lining up. Personal preference though.

x2 but ive only seen 1or2 hood vents i liked

wonder if there is an electric water pump you could get to keep it running when you want.
heat escape is good but circulating the fluids is even better.
I know there are plenty for the BMW's, LS1's and other ricer cars.... swap your current pump for an electric one with a relay and a switch.

I was going to cut parallel slots in my hood about 1/2" apart, like 8" long and twist the metal to make a louver integrated into the hood.. Cheap.. Mine hasn't been running hot, just like 215 or so (even pulling a trailer).. Forcing the fan on seems to help it out..

buddy has a 94 XJ. it had some goofy carbon fiber hood scoop thing on it for looks when he got it, but since it started getting hot we cut out a hole in the hood to the shape of the scoop (opening facing winshield) and wired up dual electric fans, and it runs steady 210-215 on the trail and 150 on the street. it only gets hot when he gets hung up on something and spinning a lot without moving. now that we painted the whole jeep the hood scoop really done look bad, and you can feel the heat coming out of it when you put your hand behind it. scoop was like $30.

i lifted the back of mine with 40 washers and 4 bolts seems to be working pretty good for me

thats what my other buddy nate does, if it aint raining he leaves it off the whole time! lol

I say shim it. Lowes carries 1 3/4 shims that work perfectly (you'll need 4 obviously and longer bolts.) I did it to mine and working in conjunction with Taurus fans, the heat has no time to settle in the engine compartment.
Don't worry about the look of body lines. When your junk looks like a raisin who cares! Kinda gives it a hot rod look too.
This is how mine turned out with 1 3/4's...

I'm thinking I may just take the whole damned hood off of mine! :D

thats whats goin to happen when im wheelin. so if you see my heep @ ure with no hood, dont laugh. bc im runnin a/c.....
:flipoff2::lol:

just like xjsavages hood i did mine a few weeks ago at ure at camp took 10 mintues tops.

i gotcha. and not to sound like a douche, but mines a DD with no dents, bad scratches, etc.... so im hesitant about cutting it or even driving around with my hood "jacked up" .... make sense? i mean its by no means a "mall crawler". look @ my albums. just not sure i want to hack it up yet.

Why? Is it over heating? There really is no need to do any of this if your cooling system is in proper working order.

it runs steady 210-215 on the trail and 150 on the street. it only gets hot when he gets hung up on something and spinning a lot without moving.

210 is not hot. It is where it should run. 150 is too cold for a 4.0. It'll never got out of closed loop mode. It will run rich always trying to heat it up.

its ran about 210 since the 3 row got put in. hasnt overheat yet, just looking to cool it down a bit for the ure trip next weekend(trail ridin)
