i have a poping noise comin from my xj sounds like its in the rear. dose not do it when i hit the breaks. any know what this could be?

Does it do it when you don't hit the brakes (the rest of the time?)
Could be lots of things. Check all your lugnuts, make sure the DS u-joints are good, wheel bearings, spring bolts/bushings, u-bolts.

check your front control arm bushings. ( I know you said rear )
Mine is doing it to, just replaced a bushing. now another is doing it.

What are your mods? I had a similar problem. Turned out to be my stock shackles popping inside the chassis box mount. Do you have any more info on when it makes the noise?
