Today my power steering would come and go. Loose all power steering at low rpm.

1. Why is it doing this?

2. Can I make a bracket and run a sagisaw pump? Would this make my problem better?

3. Would the hyrdo assist I have sitting in my shop help or am I still going to have problems at low rpm?

It's excessive heat and possibly cavitation that's causing it to go out. If it's an XJ, it should already be a Saginaw. Add a cooler to it as is or with the hydro assist and you'll be OK.

It's a 92 with possible a newer motor I was getting conflicting stuff on the internet about it being a Saginaw.

So I was planning on adding a cooler when I put the hydro assist on am I also going to need to add an extra reservoir?

Old school way to diagnose is if you rev it up and the assist returns, the pump is failing.
Add a cooler, run good fluid and install a new pump and it seems you'll be good to go.
For what it's worth, Ryan's MJ (my old one) has an OEM box and pump and it just now started to act up. Those are the originals to the truck!

A 92 will definitely be a Saginaw. A trick I use with any PS system is add a cooler and use hydraulic fluid, which is essentially all PS fluid is anyways. I get mine from carquest for around $10 a gallon. Note: more capacity, more fluid, the cooler it'll run.

Ya I'm just wanting to do it once and be done. So guess ill get a cooler and see what happens.

Also is it worth doing the Texas mod or whatever it's called to the pump

Remove the high pressure port, drill to 3/16". ;)
