so i was attempting kodak rock at ure. i ended up busting the driveshaft and breaking my rear main leaf in two! really sucks. is there any other options for springs, like toy or chevy? it has about 5" lift. anybody have any ideas.
i personally don't know of any other springs that will net you the same lift other than what you already had...i'm just wondering what you were doing to break a spring and what kind of leafs were they?
the reason their are problems when swapping to xj springs is b/c we install them backwards and torque is applied to the opposite side of the pack where the main leaf has no support for about 5"
i needed an anti-wrap bar when i swapped in xj springs before i could even give it any gas hardly.... in fact, i still need one up front.... i think you are in the same boat..... unless of course you are in an xj and simply smashed it on a rock or something and it happened to give out at kodak......
i have a 97 xj with 4.56's on 33's with 4.5" leafs, 1" block, and 1" shackle, and degree shims. it broke about four inches in front of the u-bolt plate (drivers side). it was the main leaf and all the others are fine.
there are some pics that i will have to track down from the guys i was with.
i was thiking of upgrading to either the tnt 6" kit or the full traction 6" kit, any suggestions?
I've heard of people using 2wd s-10 springs and other variations. I don't recall if the eyes line up or if people were just cutting the eyes off the main leaf and adding them all onto the XJ stock main leaf. Naxja has a good thread with various combos and the lift heights people got.
my '97 has RE 3.5 main leaf, 3" AAL, stock pack and 2" shackles, and it comes out about 5" Flexes pretty well but I haven't given it hell yet...
I just went from 31s to 33s and 4.56s are up next... How do you like it so far? I'm considering 4.10s also because its not really being built specifically for rocks.
i'll check naxja out. the 4.56's are great! 33's area bit small for them, as i don't really use first gear that much any more, but the torque is outstanding. i think that i will move up to 35's with a new lift, we'll see. my buddy has 4.10's and they work out great for a dd. look into lockers at the same time-they make the biggest difference.
Bastard pack = s-10 or dakota srings + xj Main leaf mixed and mached to meet your lift reauirement. Been there and done that. I did a bastard pack that was at least 4" and stiff one time. Main xj leaf, cut the eyes off the main s-10 leaf put it under the xj main leaf. Then put all the s-10 and xj leafs in there including the overload leaf. That overload leaf will give you almost .5" alone, and when the axle starts to wrap it will stop it. Now that pack road like hell and did not flex up well. But it did not wrap. Let me know if I can help.

I know, I wish I could lock up. I see deep snow daily ( work 70 hours a week at a ski resort) and have heard too many horror stories about auto lockers in the snow. Can't afford arbs right now so...
Like I said, it's not a rock-specific vehicle, its more because I work and play in some crazy conditions and getting stuck gets old.
Now I hadn't considered lockers and chains... I'll have to look into it.
