I have a 1996 XJ that is a trail rig only, 4.0 new dist cap and button, plugs and wires are 2 years old. When on the trail and the temp gets above 220 its as if i loose a cylinder and the engine starts missing. As the jeep cools it still runs rough but not as bad. Any ideas? Thanks

It's not repairable. You should part it out and sell me your bead locks.

Thanks Frankenyoter. . . and Greencheeokee everything is for sale for the right price

Honestly. Im thinking it may be a cracked head. I have seen them in the past start steaming from antifreeze in the cylinder after the crack opens up due to expansion. Have you checked compression? I would check it cold and at temp.

no I have not checked compression. . .Next day you are off you can do that for me since I working the next 6 days. . .

Mine used to do that when it got over 240. Have you verified the accuracy of your gage? A Novak radiator and Taurus fan fixed it on mine.

Replaced the ignition coil today. . . Still running rough. Check Engine light came back on again. Going to check it with a code reader and see what code it spits out.

Check compression on each cylinder. I bet one or two of them are low. That's the same way my sons 99 was acting. I flushed the coolant system, changed the coil, plugs, wires, water pump. Finaly pulled the head and the gasket was shot. Found the crack when we were cleaning the head for install.
