Ran into a issue this evening (figured it was just a matter of time) Trying to removing the leafs on a XJ and the front bolts stripped out and will not come off?? I am sure this is not a first. What is the best way to get them out and what kind of repair?
Next, Is there a secret to installing and removing the coils? I have removed the track bar, drag link, shocks and spring retainer, but the axle will only drop so far. Thus far I have use ratchet straps to compress them but there has to be a better way. I did go get a spring compressor, but it would not work due to the long ass bump stops:rolleyes:
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Disconnect an upper control arm and it should be plenty. As for the rear it sounds like you broke off the welded nut thats attached to the unibody frame rail... that means you have to cut a hole in the unibody to get it out...

for the coils, jack up one side of the axle to force the other side down. should come out without removing anything. If you're doing a lift anyway though removing the lowers should give you the play room you need.

How much lift on the front makes a huge difference. I could easily change my 3 inch without unhooking the control arms but not a chance with my 6 inch springs.

God bless you my friend ...been there.
I think if you look closely youll find it's not the bolt that stripped out but rather the metal bushing insert/eye on the inside of the bushing that the bolt slides through is turning with the bolt and want let you get any farther once you come to the threads on the bolt.

If thats the case, I had to drill through the bushing rubber in two places far enough that it would me to put some channel locks or visegrips on that sleeve to hold it still while I backed the bolt out.
Hopefully this is the case.
