xj steering gear box ?

just had all tres replaced track bar replaced stabilizer added then had it aligned. the steering still feels loose and heading into a turn while driving i have to turn the steering wheel 1/4-1/2 turn to get movement. a new box is like $150. so my ? is there any adjustment or tightening that can be done? thanks in advance

You aren't too far away from my shop I'd like to take a look at it and see what I can figure it out for you. It won't cost you anything for me to take a look. I would definitely not do a steering box I usually find that to be the last thing that needs replacing and it's not very cheap either.

What control arms are you running, stock or aftermarket? If they are aftermarket what brand and style joints do they have? My guess would be the joints/bushings are worn out.

idk it was lifted and everything when i got it. looks likr the lca bushings are bad, but dont know how to tell. always sumthn neway........ give me a address to the shop and ill swing by one day.
 
I believe you can tighten up those boxes but I've never done it myself. From what I've been told, is you can loosen the nut on the end of the round part, tighten the screw in the middle of it just a hair and then retighten the nut. Like I said though, I've never tried it before.
 
I have a box you can have. It came off an 87. If that will work for you, let me know. I can probably drop it off at Marsfab sometime in the next week or so or you can come pick it up.

exactly, but it takes more than a hair usually.. sometimes 3/4 turn or better. be careful about going over tight as it will bind on the ends of the sector and accelerate the wear.
