XJ Transmission Help

Just bought another 90 XJ. Trans was bad, came with a used trans and transfer case. I have Installed the used trans that came with it. Now it wont shift out of first gear. Any Ideas? Dont seem like theres much adjustment on the outside of the trans. It shifts in P,N,R,D,2/3,1 it will park, reverse, go in neutral, but in drive,2/3 or 1 it stays in first gear. any help would be great!!
 
try swapping in another tranny computer. Or check the connections going to it.
 
i had one rebuilt and put it in and it was fine.went out of town for 3 months when i got back it done same as you describe.talked to guy that rebuilt it and said it needed to be driven so i did and it finally started shifting after about an hour of putting around country roads. sounds dumb but it might work for you.
 
does it manually upshift ie. when you shift from manual low to second to third, then fourth? if so i would make sure you hooked up the tvs cable between the tranny and throttle body and have it adjusted correctly.
 
ok i unpluged the wires comeing out of the transmission after i started it. now it starts off in third gear, but i can gear up or down on the shifter. does anyone have a tcu i could buy?

Ive got one from a 90 available. Also have a trans with 103K on it, and one with 107K on it for sale. Also have one we could take apart if you need any internal parts.
