There is an XJ with 31" tires parked in my office lot today. I had to go over and check it out before I came inside. It has been here a couple of days, someone who works here must have bought it.

I am having ground clearance envy.....

I am a wannabe right now I guess. I want something more capable off road but I am not sure I will ever be as extreme as some of the guys I have seen on here.

nothing wrong with 31"s thats what i run. hasnt stopped me. well....until i went to the DPG, lol.

lol...trust me though. if i had the money right now....well, let's not dream.

What year explorer? you can make a capable trail rig out of them. 31-33s will do just fine.

It is a 2002. From what I understand no one makes a lift kit for it because the way Ford built it that year. The rear axles go through holes in the frame.

I know where there's a Cherokee on 32s for cheap! ;)

BTW, wheeling is what you make it. If you enjoy wheeling a relatively stock vehicle with smaller tires, just hitting the trails and looking at the little rocks as big obstacles, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Yep, I can have quite a good time wheeling a jeep on 31s.

An XJ on 31s with a rear locker would be enough for me. Anything it can't handle is probably too much. I need to be able to use my rig as a daily driver.

wait, what?:wtf::confused:

do you mean the front axle, and if so, is it an axle or is it Twin Torsion. (is is straight, or is it two pice, X- Shaped)

^ i am pretty sure he meant FRONT axle....as i own an exploder.

and again...unless you plan on going to tellico or paragon or DPG etc etc.......31s are fine for NC

31 keeps the trails in NC fun.... if you need anything bigger then you can not drive (hint my 35's)

excluding the trails made for big tires.. which are very few

2002. ouch. plenty of lifts out there. $2000.00 range though. at that price, you could buy an XJ on 31s, lol.

I really could use a truck, that is why I have been looking at Tacomas. They are pretty expensive though. I would like to have another XJ, I have had two in the past and they were both bullet proof but I need a truck. Dodge Dakotas are cheap but I am not sure that is what I want.
