so how bout i just got a automated phone call from wrightsville beach police department telling me i have a criminal summons charge...for a surfing violation. i mean i knew i had it but it was "supposedly" taken care of through the officer that wrote it out to me.

yea... were gonna need you to come back down to the station ...yea - PD

sucks but sometimes you gotta take care of the same :poop: twice

its bull!@#$ though. i thought these guys were here to protect and serve? i have the utmost respect for the law but i mean damn guys yall got nothin better to do than to write my fellow surfers and i "surfing violations" its a joke. and wht makes it worse is i believe EMS had to haul ass down there the same day because something happened with someone in the water. im not sure i couldnt check it out cause i was too busy getting a ticket written...for surfing

idk man i know the law can pull some fast ones but for the most part im just irritated with the simple fact that...its a surfing violation. but it was on wrightsville beach so im not to surprised i suppose ahaha

What is a surfing violation? are there designated areas?

What is the purpose? too keep surfers away from touristy beaches?

I'm sure they were writing you a ticket to prevent things like this:

and wht makes it worse is i believe EMS had to haul ass down there the same day because something happened with someone in the water.

REVENUE. You're crazy if you think it's for any other reason.

And you don't think those rules were written to prevent stuff like this:

and wht makes it worse is i believe EMS had to haul ass down there the same day because something happened with someone in the water.

What gets me is cops and laws are damned if they do, damned if they don't. If they let the srfing go on all willy nilly and whatnot and someone got hurt, be the surfer, tourists, swimmers, etc. people will be bitching about no one preventing things like that from happening. Or on the flip side, you get a thread like this that's nothing but bitching about the man trying to ruin your good time.

I'm not a surfer, but I imagine there are legal places to surf along the coast, no? So how is your illegal surfing any different from illegal wheeling? There are designated places where it's deemed legal to wheel, and if someone even mentions wheeling illegally, their flamed to high hell...how is this surfing incident any different?

yea pretty much every where is open zone for surfers except WB. i was surfing next to mercers pier in winter when i got it...which there is literally nobody on the beach except surfers and were in national waters not in the town of wrightsville beach. but i mean ya know someone said they do it to prevent people from getting hurt or whatever. well i mean personally i can understand a non surfer out of town tourist to wanna get closer to the surfers in the water...but really, do you actually think you should get close enough to the line up to where you put yourself in danger? i mean ive ha my moments of ignorance but i do a pretty well set base of common sense. as for the surfing too close to the pier, well, i can go ahead and tell you i knew i was prolly 2 feet on the other side of the marker but i was paddling for a set and rode away from the pier. and apparently the guy who wrote me the icket just "loves" to surf that spot. i however have never seen him out in the lineup before.
as for the man trying to ruin my good time. yea i live in a country where i have the right of he pursuit of happiness and ill be damned if i dont follow that right.
i can argue this all day and night forever or until the day i die whichever comes first haha. so im just going to make this my last post for this thread and start realizing that if i want to surf ill just go to carolina beach instead (which is generally better).

sorry i had to throw this in there...cause the town of wrightsville beach doesnt own or have authority over the atlantic. thats why the coast guard is there. i actually had a buddy who took it to a further extent than i have and actually had the coast guard called out because he started paddling out to sea hahahaha (hes a little wired wrong though). but even the coast guard told the local jurisdiction not to waste time on calling them for surfing violations

x2... the laws are written to prevent things from happening... It's likely that someone was hurt from surfing there, and it caused them to write the law...

Im not a surfer and do not live down there. I have a good friend that does, and he said that Wrightville beach is pretty strict.... Even with that being said, IF THAT IS THE ONLY PLACE IT IS ILLEGAL, THEN GOTO ANOTHER BEACH, its not like its very far, and unless you live on the water, probly not any farther than you drive to Wrightsville...

this is no different than bitching because you got arrested for stealing a coke at the store, with the excuse of "I was thirsty."
and then complaining because there was a store down the street giving away Coke, so you didnt understand why it was wrong to take one at this store too....

I'm not one for bashing police by any means. I have a handfull of friends that work in law enforcement. On that note,Wrightsville beach cops are of another breed. I know of MANY people that would agree with me through past bullshit experiences.

I quit going there long ago....and we used to surf that pier year round, I guess that was before the law was established:confused:

I'm actually a little suprised that there's no real criminals for the local pd to pursue. To get a fine for surfing almost seems laughable.

Dont break they law, dont test your boundaries with the law.

Dont confront the law...and definatly....dont pay the law on the spot for court costs? what part of that seemed like a good idea on your part?

well i havent payed anything, ive known the cop tht issued me the citation for a good while but he had to do it because "i was the lucky pick". i have complete respect for law enforcement. i could almost compare the citation being "laughable" as the law in cali (whtever city it is) where you cant smoke cigs...anywhere

So this was a thread to get attention, then?

That's what I'm thinking. No different than any other thread where someone is bitching about getting a ticket for something stupid they did.

Regardless of how stupid you may think the law is, it's probably there for a reason. Does that mean you have to agree with it, no. But there are different ways to handle it than sticking it to the man and doing what you want anyway. As I said earlier, you were somewhere you shouldn't have been and it appears that you know it too. To me, that's no different than if you were wheeling illegally somewhere and you knew it. You have no one to blame but yourself because YOU made the conscious decision to break the law.To be honest, if I were a surfer, I'd consider you a douche for bringing negativity to the sport, again like an illegal wheeler who got an illegal wheeling ticket.

Thats nothing, in Singapore you can't chew gum. Be thankful your allowed to surf at all. Things can, and only will get worse.

well initially i was just blowing some steam. but then it got heated. i just dont understand how that law can be enforced. i understand the fact that law is there but how do the local police have jurisdiction over the ocean?

Why are you at a tourist beach anyway? Carolina beach rocks!! The cops at Wrightsville and Myrtle beach seem like jerks to us but understand there mission and you can see why. They have to protect the image of the beach the fantasy of the place so they keep attracting tourists to the area which intern feeds the locale economy which pay all the bills. One or two bad reviews or negative news starts to leak out about locals taking over the beach drinking or surfers making swimming dangerous and there image takes a hit. People don't fly in from all over the country and world for that matter to see locals having fun on the beach. Those places are for the tourists stick to the locals spot brother you don't want to be around those people anyway they suck.
