Anybody else noticed more of them this year? Just killed the 4th nest in 3 weeks. They don't fawk with me on the lawnmower, but I can see where the hole is next lap around.

Yes, I'm plotting the demise of the 3rd nest in our yard right now, stumbled on the 2nd nest and barely avoided getting stung again a few weeks after my arm swoled up like popeyes ..........the skeeters here are worse too.

I've noticed that down here too. Not quite as many red wasps yet. August-september is the prime for them it seems like. Yellow jackets, paper wasps, leucospids and even hornets are everywhere in the deep woods that's I've been to. I got tore up pretty bad a few weeks ago by yellow jackets on an island. 12 stings total. When I was a kid as few as 3 stings would put me in a hospital. Appears as though I may have built up an immunity to them.

I was just talking to a co worker about this! I have never seen them at my house before and I noticed 2 nests when cutting grass. gasoline still the best method in late evening?

I've had two nests at my house this year. You could count three since they started building one on the side of the house after I gassed their nest in the ground in the flower bed.

Yellow jackets, yellow flys, and ground Hornets have been terrible this year, at least around here.

Hornet spray into the hole of the nest, during a good rain or at night (or both).

Most of the nests I find are under leaves in natural areas in the yard. I'll mark the area w a beer can, wait till hours after dark to approach w a headlamp on. I bring a coffee can a rake and hornet spray. Quickly rake the leaves away to find the hole, shoot a good dose of spray down the hole and jamb the can into the dirt. It has worked every time. If I can see the hole I just shoot and can it after dark. I've also used a brick to cover the hole after spraying it.

Yall are doing it wrong. Pull your car up to the nest during the day. Have a couple cans of spray in the passenger seat. Roll the window down and spray away. When they start to notice where the spray is coming from, roll the window up. In about 30 seconds they go away, and you can continue spraying. I prefer this to the night spray method, as I get to see them pile up around the opening of the hole.

Theres also the exploding target method. Place the tannerite right beside the nest (or dig a small hole to put it in if you're feeling lucky). Then stir the nest up, and fire away.

And then theres the mortar method. Acquire some of those not-legal-in-NC-fireworks from those rednecks in SC. Pour some gasoline in the hole to mellow them out and assist with eradication. Shove the mortar down the hole upside down, with the fuse laid out as far as you can. Light the end of a long stick on fire. Use the stick to light the fuse, then run like hell. The launching stage of the mortar will alert them, and the exploding stage will light the gas!

I found a nest in a old blanket in the barn Saturday. Don't ask me how I found them. Lol

Yeah. It was not good. By the way I got a free blanket if anyone wants to come get it.

Spraying them at night is generally better, because all the workers are inside sleeping. I usually just spray them as soon as I find them, which results in a bunch of pissed-off wasps who come back to find their house full of death and destruction.

<shrug>

Gas in the hole after the sun goes down. Just be careful cause the last couple holes have had lookouts posted.

I was out working on my 72 Super Beetle last night and noticed a couple buzzing me. Once it got my attention, I started watching where they were going. Apparently, there is a nest INSIDE the rear control arm on the driver's side. I shot some wasp spray and it got some, but the nest must be WAY deep inside it. Guess I'll keep spraying periodically. Not like the Super Beetle is going anywhere any time soon.

Lol probably right.
If you knew someone that you hated or wanted to get back at them. bag that thing up in a black trash bag leave it on their doorstep ring the doorbell and video.

I like the idea of a big metal blade fan sitting beside the hole where it sucks them in and chops them up.

I have always used gas though.

It's very satisfying to sit in a chair in the shade, sipping cold beer, at a safe distance while you watch and hear those SOBS being chopped up and spit out on the ground by a 30" shop fan ......sounds like popcorn popping when you first turn the fan on, then later the pace slows down as they all get gone :smokin:
