I have a '95 YJ that I'm adding some tube to the front of right now. The B pillar/ stock cage has a little ~2.5" tube that sticks out from it, for the piece of tube that connects it to the windshield. I have a piece of tube that will go from the B pillar straight to the A pillar, then bend down and go past the dash and to the floor. My dilemma is: the tube ID is supposed to slide over the piece that is already on the stock cage piece. Simple enough. However, when assembled, the cage will overlap that piece entirely and have little clearance from the dash. So my problem is, I can't put that piece in without taking out the back of the cage. I could take out the back of the cage simple enough, but the undercoating is on the threads of all of the cage hardware.
I am considering my options for this:
1) Try to use some heavy duty paint thinner to get the undercoating off of the hardware
2) Cut the tube that goes in between the A and B pillar and use a tube clamp, although I'm not sure how strong that would be
3) Sleeve the cut with another piece of tube and weld it in place
The bad thing about cutting out the hardware is that the hardware lands in threaded tube, that is welded to the body.
If I could get some say about how others have gotten their cage out or added onto theirs, lets hear it
