I have a 87 YJ that was originally a Auto that I swapped a 700R4 into. I have done alot of searching and haven't found a way to use the column shifter. Everyone says use a floor shifter but I actually like the column shifter. I know tons of people have swapped in a 700R4 so my question is there a way to adapt/use the column shifter?

Depends on your fab skills I suppose. All you have to do is rotate the shift pin so the column shifter should work in theory..now getting the gear indicator is another matter.

What do you mean by rotate the shift pin?

Shifting on the tranny is achieved by rotating a threaded , keyed stud on the drivers side of the transmission.

In that vein it is no different than most AT its just about aligning the rods

no luck, not enough throw. Back to the drawing board. Looks like I'll have to go to a floor mount.

If you want it column shifted it's certainly possible ...simple machines here...we are talking levers and fulcrums. Tis can be and has been done
