yj engine swap

thinking about putting a 5.2 out of a 95 grand cherokee in my yj. is there a three speed auto tranny that will bolt up to the engine and my 231? or do i have to use the 4sp tranny out of the grand? i have a line on a grand cherokee with a bad tranny and just looking for options. thanks in advance!

you can use a tf727 out of a dodge truck... also you could use a 4spd auto out of a newer dodge truck, that would be somewhat of an improvement over a GC tranny...

an np231 will work behind a tf727? and the 727 is not computer controlled right?

with a jeep tailhousing an np231 should work behind the 727... and it is not computer controlled

Better yet upgrade to a Dana 300 tcase. That will bolt up also. You would have to flip it to have the output shaft on the drivers side though.

Why put that motor in? Are there significant gains or is at that you are like the rest of us and want to do it just to do it.

i can gat the whole gc pretty cheap and i want more power. i know it is not as easy or powerful as a 350 but i can get this good running 5.2 really cheap! as for the d300, i already have a 231 with a 4to 1 kit

while the 231 is out, if you are deff gonna use it, id think about upgrading the planetaries in it, to help with the strength...

What are you going to do about the wiring and computer? Hack and slice or are the bulkhead connectors the same?

i dont think the bulk heads r the same so probably just splice what i need and eliminate anything else
