I'm trying to get some ideas for my YJ and was wondering if any of you guys that have a yj with lifts, v8s, full widths would let me take a look at your rig. Pics would be nice or in person so i could get a good look at what is done to your rig would be wonderful. I do not have any friends that have mods on 4x4s so i dont really know were to start. Any help will be Appreciated.MY yj has a 2.5l and 5 spd so I will prob swap the 2.5 for a v8.

I HAVE MY 1995 WRANGLER IN OUR SHOP. 2.5L FOUR CYL. ENGINE IS OUT, AX5 TRANS. OUT, 231 TRANSFER CASE OUT, ALL ON THE FLOOR. INSTALLING A CHEVY 350, SM460 TRANS., USING MY 231 TRANSFER CASE. JEEP IS LIFTED 6 INCHES, FRONT SHACKLE REVERSAL KIT, 231 TRANSFER CASE AND BEEN BEEFED UP. MADE MY ON FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS WITH SWING OUT TIRE CARRIER. HAVE DANA 60 AXLES THAT WILL BE GOING UNDER BOTH FRONT AND REAR. NOVAK CONVERSIONS WEB SITE CAN GIVE YOU ALL THE NECESSARY IFO ON ANY CHANGE OVER.

If you feel like a drive to Wake Forest, mines parked in the driveway. Basic 1ton on leafs, YJ frame/tub, CJ front end, small block, etc... Probably not as fancy as others but I did all the work myself. Search for thread started by me (in the tech section) as I've posted several threads on mods I've done. Good Luck. Should add, mine will be for sale next year when I finish my new rig.

I tell ya a sweet setup:

YJ with a fuel injected I-6, AX-15, SYE 231 and then early bronco axles on stock spring overs with a track bar. Then whatever 33x12.50 tire you want.

My roommate many years ago ran this setup. It was solid, capable yet simple. So if you are looking for a milder build, I would recommend this.

In your case, maybe go with a Vortec V6 or maybe a Vortec 5.3, but I think the V6 will be plenty for what you want.

Now if you want to go all the way, then think about dumping in a LQ4 engine. My friend just picked one up for about 900 bucks or so, had 60,000 miles. Makes a ton o' power, fairly lightweight and cheap. Also I like LQ4s so I'm gonna recommend it.

You didn't specify a budget, so here you go:

- 6.0 engine with wiring harness reworked by Jim's Performance
- TH350 or TH400 automatic
- Atlas transfer case
- 78-79 Ford high pinion Dana 60 front axle
- 14 bolt FF rear axle with disc brake conversion
- Spring over the front axle on the stock YJ springs
- Spring over the rear axle on a set of XJ springs for more wheelbase
- Traction bar for rear axle
- 40"+ tires of choice
- Beadlock wheels of some sort

That should be a good start, then switch to a link suspension with coilovers when you are ready and recover from emptying the wallet on all the above.

I'm gonna take a different tack. Where do you wheel? What terrain do you like? Is this going to be a DD or a second car or a trailer queen?

If you're on a limited budget, I'd focus on skid plates and a winch (and other recovery tools). The rest can come as you determine your needs, your driving style, and the needs of the YJ to fit that style. You could easily shorten the front bumper and sell off the bumperettes.

I agree except the rear suspension, I would link it with some coilovers and be done.

I was just going to collect parts until i got everything that i need as for budget im just going to buy parts when i get the money. As for where i wheel and what i do, I have aways had mostly stock toyotas with blocks and mud tires i would like to keep the tag on it for transport but i will trailer it any thing more than 20 or so miles and that means any were i go wheel. the red and white yjs thats what im trying for
