The rear of my 87 YJ has some rust holes in the frame and I plan on cutting out the rusted part and replacing it with a frame repair kit I bought off ebay. The kit has precut 3/16" plates that you weld to the existing frame. I am wondering if my Hobart 135 (110volt) welder will handle the job. I feel like my mig welding is pretty decent and I have never had any of my welds break before , but this is the frame we are talking about here. Also I need to know how difficult it is to remove the gas tank. Since I am welding the frame at the tank it has to come out. What is involved in removing it? Is the tank skid plate actual part that is holding up the tank? Anyone have any tips or tricks for this?

I think you would be fine with the welder. Just make sure your prep work is done correctly. Bevel the edges, remove all rust ect. ect. Im sure you know that though. Tank should drop right out when you remove the skid. Disconnect fuel lines and electrical.

A buddy of mine has the same kit bought from ebay that i will be repairing his frame with btw.

Your welder will be fine for the job!

After you remove the skid there should be two metal straps holding the tank in place. You may have to undo the filler neck and supply lines if you want to remove it all the way.
