just picked up some yj springs for my samurai project today (trying to get the pictures up for a build thread), anyways one pair is a 4 pack and the other a 5 pack....just wondered if it really matters which goes on front or back, my thought was that the 5 pack being what seemed a little stiffer should go on the front, but they were on the back of the jeep that they came off of....so whats yalls input on this, or what are yall runnin??....thanks for any advice/help

I always thought the 5-packs were found on the front of the YJ, to help with the weight of the motor. Anyway, most Sammi guys choose to put them in the rear to help control axle wrap. You're going to find that they wrap hard, especially if you're sprung-over. A traction bar would not be a bad idea. I've seen many springs twisted up by a little 1.3.

When I put the YJ springs in my CJ I ran into the same question and I thought the same thing that the 5 pack went in the front. But after doing a little research I found that the 5 pack was actually the rear.

Yes the motor is heavy but if you put 4 adults in the jeep that can be as much as 800-1000 pounds. This is why the 5 pack goes in the rear to keep it from sagging when passengers are riding.

well its good to see that others have thought the same as me....but if im not very often going to have passengers in the back and yeah it is going to be spung over, but im going to put some traction bars on in front and rear....would it be any better flex to have the 4 on the back, or remove a leaf from the 5 pack and run 4s front and rear?

Your traction bar design is probably going to have more to do with flex than leaf count. I've seen people run 5 and 6 leaf packs all around and still get great flex. I'd just run the 5s in the rear, traction bar in the rear only. The front really rarely needs it, and working around the engine is difficult. A panhard bar up front will be a big help, though, as the softer, flexier springs will have you swaying around the road more.

I put the 4 packs in the front, and removed the 3rd leaf from the 5 packs and put those in the back. I took out the back seat for a tall shock hoop, and also removed my spare tire from the tailgate, so never have much weight in the back.

alright that sounds like a pretty good plan, didnt really think about space getting a little tight for the traction bars up front (this is my first bulid) panhard bar does sound like a good idea though, mostly just going to be offroad, mabey a trip to town or something but not far for sure....drkelly, are you running a traction bar on the rear of yours?

drkelly, are you running a traction bar on the rear of yours?

No, but I am spring under. Even still though, I have fubared my springs once, and I had to re-arch them.

ahh, probly just gonna run a traction bar then just to be on the safe side then
