For any of you that stretched a YJ front 6", did you have a custom driveshaft made or is there a particular driveshaft that when cut down fits well?

Depends on what case and tranny you are running...

i had previously made a driveshaft for my YJ out of agri-toob stuff, and i build it with like 30 million inches of travel, so it would have the most overlap in the joint as possible. When i stetched the front of my jeep i just kept the same one, with it ran out about and inch and a half more.

However i did go from a d30 front w/ a 231 case, to a chevy d60 front w/ d300 case. The 60 has a longer pinion than a 30 which saves you a few inches on driveshaft length.

If you need any measurements just shoot me a PM and i'll grab them up. I have rear XJ springs in the front of my YJ with the shackles in the rear of the spring. ended up with about 6.5" front stretch total.

Let me know if I can help, and i can't wait to see how your build turns out.

When you pushed the front 6", what did you do with your steering?

I'm going to the pull it yard tomorrow to grab some xj leafs (leaves? sp for plural leaf springs?) and an astro van steering box. I haven't decided what to do with the powertrain yet. I have a 2-cycle 2.5L i4 (it burns as much oil as it does gas) so I am thinking about just dropping a chevy 350, th350/400 or 700r4, and some standard 3/4 - 1 ton 4x4 box under it. If I could find another scout with a 345 v8, an autoshift tranny, and a d300 I would grab it in a heartbeat.

You can't find them with D300s very often, but you can get a running 345/727/D20 plus a rusty scout body and a pair of D44s for next to nothing.

plan on grabbing an extra pair of leafs for fulls size GM or s-10 to cut up to add in as a full length 2nd leaf in the XJ pack. If you don't you will easily flatten the xj springs in the front....

It's going to be a slow process Pete but I am gathering parts. I need to find a good deal on some axles before I really start. Really want to go 8lug. Just bought myself an early christmas gift... a hobart handler 210 so I can do the welding at the house where the jeep is.
