had my alternator catch on fire last night melted the whole back of the alternator so i changed the alt and the wires, and the car would start up but would die out after about 5 secs, if i tried to start it then hit the gas to rev it up it would die out right away, so then i traced all the wires and looked at the fuse and my fuse was melted so i changed that one out with a spare that i dont know for sure that works but it looked ok, after changing out this fuse the truck will still only run for like 5 secs, it runs perfect for these 5 secs but just dies, i have no idea what to do and im pretty much stupid when it comes to electric stuff on cars, so anyone have any ideas? this is on a 1986 toyota 4runner 22re auto btw

Check your air tube for leaks. If it is sucking the least bit of air, that's what it will do. May have been tweaked while working on the alternator
