Does anyone know the size of the bolts that hold the bellhousing to the block on a 22re? They use a 17mm wrench but I need to know the diameter and thread pitch. Also would anyone know where I could get some longer ones on a Saturday in Concord (or close by)? I need to put the engine on a stand but don't have long enough bolts.
Thanks
Luke

if they are throguh holes just run a smaller size through it, if you have at least three it's hold fine

M14x1.25 if I remember correctly

measure your stand mounts and add 25-30mm to that measurment to get your length.

If nothing else, take a bell housing bolt with you when you go shopping ( you have a hard time fining that size at the box stores )

The size of the bolts ended up being m12x1.25. I was suprised when the first hardware store I called had them in stock, even in 100mm length. I was even more supprised when I got to the store and the bolts were $4.05 EACH!!!! So $17 later I have my 22re on an engine stand, now I just have to figure out why there is oil in the water.

Your timing chain guides are probably broke and the chain wore a hole in the timing cover. Easy fix even in the truck. Probably wasn't any need to pull the engine, but since you did, might as well rebuild it. When putting new guides in it make sure they are the better metal backed ones.

FYI, beauty of the metric bolts used on all Jap vehicles is that they conform to teh same convention. AKA, all M12 bolts will be 17mm head and 1.25 pitch. Actually, all the automotive bolts (with only aeceptions being the big ones) are 1.25. M10 = 14mm head, M8 = 12 mm head.
Yep, they tend to be pricy, for osme reason, people 'round here still think Metric is some kind of oddball system.
Fastener suppliers, though (Like SOuthern Fasteners) sell metric bolts almost as cheap as SAE though, even in stainless and grade 8. It's the auto parts places that'll rape 'ya.

Must only be on Jap vehicles. We buy bolts in bulk, and use alot of m10x1.50. Once we ordered 10.9 instead of 8.8 and the head size was 16mm vs. 17mm. Not a real big deal except that what we do is so specific that most guys in the shop (including myslef) own only 17mm sockets.
