hey yall, my bud just got himself a 92 yota with a 22re motor that runs really good. only thing wrong with it is the fuel gauge isint registering right, it reads a half tank even tho it is plum full of gas. Does he need a new sending unit or is it something else. Like I said he just got this thing like 6 hours ago and it hasent stopped raining yet so I havent bothered to look at it. thanks in advance.

I have an efi tank that still has the sending unit....you come take it out of the tank and it's free.

How much history/info is available on it? It's also possible that the guage cluster isn't the original one for the vehicle and a PO swapped it with one from a V6 model truck that had a different size tank... so the guage and sender don't match. I'm not positive about the 90s models but I know this can happen w/ 80s.
I put a guage from an SR5-model truck in my non-SR5 4Runner, aparently it was the opposite... my guage goes down to E when it's still at 2/3rds and stays there for the last 1/3.

But in all likelihood - needs a sender unit.

If you have or have a friend who has an ohmmeter. Pull the sender out of the top of the tank and move the float up and down while holding the leads on the wires in the end of the plug. Efi Toyota pickups should read 0 ohms full and 90 ohms empty. This will tell you if the sender is good and if it's the right one for the truck.

Alright, thanks for the info guys. I was pretty sure it had a sending unit, it just messed with my head a little when I couldnt find one online. He told me that the interior was replaced, so I dont know if that included the cluster, but I highly doubt it cause the cluster reads a cool 288K mi. and he also told me that the engine was rebuilt by the guy he bought it from. and to 1stgen; Ill be sure to let him know that, thanks!
