I recently bought a hi pinion yota 3rd. It is stock with an open diff, 4.10 gears. I was told that the carrier was the same as the v6 carriers, and that a v6 locker would work in the hi pinion 3rd. Now that I have it I noticed the carrier looks nothing like a v6 carrier, but instead looks like a 4cyl carrier. Can anyone tell me what locker will work for this application. Thanks Jon

I had actually already found that site, and just read it again. Problem is the carrier in this hi pinion is nothing like a v6 carrier as the site states. I actually have a v6 3rd that I bought the hi pinion to replace. The carrier in this hi pinion looks just like a 4cyl carrier. Does anyone know if toyota ever used a 4cyl carrier in the hi pinion diffs, even if it was just for a limited time.

it could be a V6 with 4cyl carrier, meaning V6 bearings and a 4cyl 2 pinion carrier, if you post a pic ill tell you what carrier it is, but basically if it does not look like the closed 4 pinion carier its a v6 carrier and the LR won't Fit.

I could use a V6 LR and I could trade you cut you a deal on a new one.

It's definitly a 2 pinion carrier, just wanted to make sure there wasn't any oddball carriers that it could be. I compared it to another 4cyl carrier today, and it appeared to be the same, except the thickness of the cast part appeared to be a little thicker. I'll let ya know on that trade. I kind of wanted to sell the whole v6 3rd with LC and all if I was going to sell it. My v6 LC only has one trail ride on it so it is practically brand new.

HI-pinion

As far as I know, there was only one hi-pinion Toyota diff made, it was the front diff for the FJ80. It uses the same bearings as the V6 I assume the carrier is the same. I do know a Detriot locker is the same for either one. I have run one in my truck for years.

i am running a 4 pin V6 carriers (that came out of a read axle) with a lockright in my personal highpinion. No it is not the one that came in it from the factory. I have been running it that way for several years though. Broke the R&P but the carrier and locker are fine.......i know this is late but hope it helps
