whats goin on fellas. so i got a 85 toyota pickup. my first plan was chevy 63s and RUF. but i dont have a welder. and you have to make new shackles/hangers and whatnot for the 63s from what ive read. you also have to move the front hanger 11in forward? and the rear 4in? Sky Manu. sells a kit to do this though. anyways my question. so i came across topguncustomz.com. and now my plans are changin. now im thinkin RUF with a 3inch AAL, and some Rough Country 3inch springs in the rear, since they mount in stock location. the 63s would be flexyer, but the RC's would be more convienent for me. and im sure they would have decent flex. if you were in my boat, would you do the RUF and 63s? or the rough countrys and RUF?

I have no clue, but I'm subscribing to learn more. I have an 85 yota myself and am in the parts gathering stage. I was going to go with air shocks all the way around, but that'll be very expensive. May end up going the leaf spring route while I buy all the rest of the drivetrain parts I need.

63s all the way! pay someone 2 weld them hangers for you. They ride better and you get the best flex out of any spring u can put on your yota. Plus you can get out cheaper buyin your 63s and payin someone 2 weld on your hangers.

RUF and 63's. It is the best proven flexy combo out there and the best bang for your buck.

How much lift do you get out of the 63s and moving the rears up front? (Sorry to hijack, but it's a good chance to learn!)

Enough to clear 37s....... Haha.

flex

If you want your truck to flex, and go well on trails, spend the money up front and put Trail Gear 5 1/2 inch lift springs on the front with the extra leaf and Trail Gear or Alpro 5 1/2 inch lift springs on the rear. You will also need the kit, along with Hysteer, to hang all the front spring stuff from TG or Alpro. It works, there is no better set-up if your intention is to stay with springs.

well my first plan was the MC trail flex kit with 4in springs. btu now i decided this is gonna be a big budget wheeler. and plus, i wana keep it at a lower COG. thanks a ton guys for your opinions. if i go with 63s im gonna run the 2wd leaves. also, from my readin on pirate, it looks liek if you dont add leaves to teh RUF pack, it dont lift it much. any thoughts on this? ill prob just go with a 3inch AAL. the extra weight of the engine should make it set pretty level with the chebbys. another delima with teh 63s tho. the last ~3in of my frame is rotted. and you gotta move the shackle back 4inches.... not sure how thatd work out. thanks fro the pics. and i plan on runnin 36s.

I didn't like the all pro springs that I had. I bent the crap out of them. You can't beat RUF and 63s if you're going to stick with leafs

I'm in Bristol got a welder and just happen to have a set of 6rs and a sky hanger kit that I'm thinkin bout sellin!
are you serious?? first strand of good luck ive had in a looong time. so you got soem 63s and the sky manu. kit your thinkin bout sellin? PM and let me know if you decided to
Here's another one with RUF and 63s. Pretty good travel me thinks.

ive heard a couple people on another forum say that RUFs are not to good for hard wheeling strength wise? but then i see on pirate alot of fellas are runnin em and we all know how hardcore those guys are haha

It is the factory pack minus the over load with two extra leaves added.

They do net more axle wrap than the other due to the center pin being more offset.

thanks for the pic!

so just mainly axle wrap? i can live with that. any of yall have anything about where i said the end of my frame is rotted in a few posts back?

I think vatoy was offering to help. I'm sure you can cut off the rot and replace it with new steel.

i'm new to this, so all u need to get are some chevy 63s since i already have the rear on my truck. How about modifications for mounting them?

are you askin what you need fro the 63s conversion? if so, youll need the rear springs from a chevy/GMC 1500 1988-98. 2wd has 4 leafs plus overload and 2wd had 3 leaves plus overload. sky-manufacturing.com sells the kit to do it. or you can just make teh stuff if your fab-work savvy. Pirate4x4 has a great link to pics/ how to's on it
