How hard (if possible) would it be to swap a Yota Tcase into my TJ? Does anyone make tailshaft adapters?

Advance Adapters has a divorced adapter that allows you to put the yota case in anything

Why not a Dana 300? What trans do you have in your TJ? I know there is a an AW4 to toyota adapter but I don't think there is another one. You could swap in a Toyota 5 speed from a V6 truck...but you wouldn't get to use a gear driven case unless you bought another adapter. You may have inspection issues if you do this....check engine light might never go off.

Why not a 5-speed from a 4 cyl truck? Bolt on the AW4 bellhousing, 2 yota cases, and you've got a 5-speed with a doubler (4:1) all for around 300 bucks

just get a yota and save the time and trouble!

I'm running a toy t-case in my jeep :D G54 mated to a jeep 2.5L

AX5 trans is same ASIN series as G52/G54 toy transmissions. The main case is mostly the same minus some slight variations but all the parts more/less swap.

Here is what i did: I swapped a AX5 input shaft into a G54 (it needed rebuilding anyway). I used the AX5 (TJ) input bearing retainer and bell housing. Later model AX5s and G54s have the wider 23mm wide input bearing so make sure your retainer matches up.

I wanted the G54 internals as toyota used a nut to hold 5th gear on vs a clip on later year AX5s, early YJ/XJ/MJ era AX5s had a nut also.

They do make adapters for the R series toy transmissions to bolt on the gear drive cases now too.. But the simplicity of mix/matching stock parts goes away.

NOW all this assumes you want a right/passenger side drop t-case, if your running stock TJ axles. If that were the case, all said and done I would just get the 4:1 for the np231 vs flipping the toy case etc..

I have a NV3550 (i think thats the #) 5 speed.....

I have been looking at the yota t cases and the 4.7:1 upgrade you can do to em, in order for me to get 4:1 in my 231 i need to spend $1200 on the Tera low upgrade so I was just thinking why not do something a little "custom" and save a few bucks? Think it's worth it?

Just quickly running the numbers in my head I would spend roughly the same amount of money and get a little more gear reduction outta the Yota case! I am always up for suggestions though!

I believe the ax15 shares alot with the R series yota trans too...

the biggest issue you will have, is the yota is passenger side drop and you are driverside drop. so unless you swap axles, it will not work...

unless you do a toyota trans with toyota crawl box to np231 or flipped d300.
