Petey the Pit (mix) lives in our home with 2 Pekignese, my wife and kids. He was rescued from death's door when a :poop:head down the street moved out and left him in the basement to starve to death. After 3 IV's, hook worm treatments, a week at the vets, he survived. He is a great dog who loves to play  with all the kids and other dogs. He knows he was saved/rescued and it shows. With that being said, I dont kid myself, Petey could do big damage to someone if he wanted to. I have raised him to be a member of the family and to listen. but thats no guarantee he wont change one day.

My sister was almost killed by a Collie/Shepard mix when she was 4. We had played around that dog for years. It went for her throat but she threw her arm up. she had 150 stitches and a crushed arm. Almost bled completely out before we got her to the hospital. Turned out the dog had a brain tumor and just went crazy. He was big enough to do some serious damage.

With that said, I have seen and respect the crazy, pissed off, fighting side of Pitts and Plott hounds that chase bear and wild hogs down. Being from the country, I dont have a Walt Disney view of animals. Petey could be dangerous if he got into a rage. He is protective of his family and I wouldnt want him to really "loose it" on someone, unless they were coming in through a window. Fact is, that a dog that size with that type of strength can be put into a bad situation and it will live up to it's breeding. There are way too many morons and wanna' be thugs out there with pits. The dogs arent the problem, but they will suffer for thier owners stupidity.
