trans went in 94 burb I found two at the junkyard one for $350 with a "chip" in bellhousing 6mo warranty 160k on trans
And other for $600 with same warranty 150k and was told the truck was well taken care of by previous owner new trans/brake lines like new body and undercarriage!! So my question is which to go with? Can a chip in bellhousing cause damage to a trans? Or just go with other for piece of mind? A rebuild from what I see will be in $1800 range total but I can get trans out in for 275-300$ so why not save some money? What say ye smart Appalachian folk?

Just rebuild one and be done with it. Stock automatic transmissions suck anyway!

You can rebuild one pretty easily if you can follow directions and have a clean work area, a shop press and mechanical inclination. PM me if you decide to rebuild it, I have something you'll need for it. Btw you can get then rebuilt for 900 or so if you remove it.

I use the burb for DD so no off-roading besides when it snows want to do 4l80e swap in the future so not looking for new trans really My plan is to put the junkyard one in and then rebuild the one I have in it over the summer using beefy internals and all the cool shit and I won't be rushed bc my trucks down so I'll be able to learn for future trans repair!?

Where in the bellhousing is the chip? And is it a chip or a giant chunk missing?

The trans with chip had 230k on it and looked like it had bathed in trans fluid and dirt for last 15 years so passed on it the $600 one was for a 2wd so I'm now still looking for a 4l60e, anybody?

@YotaOnRocks Was a chunk more than a chip!! The truck it came out of looked like someone trail rig so I'm sure it was ran hard and put up wet.
