Has anyone used one of the new Yukon Grizzly lockers? It seems like it might be a good competitor for the Detroit. I'm looking for a full case locker and am debating on trying the Grizzly, any reason why I shouldn't?

Doesn't look to bad to me. If they made it in an 8.8 and there was more of a reputation for it, I'd consider it. Start a new trend.

So nobody's tried one yet? I might just have to be the guinea pig. From the info I could find, it seems like a "silent" detroit.

"The Yukon Grizzly Locker uses 8620 internals and a patent pending design to provide maximum strength and reduce common failures. Assembled in the USA!

Grizzly automatic lockers are a great choice for trail, street, and towing. Unlike other automatic lockers, Grizzly lockers are silent. Internally the Grizzly locker works like a ratchet wrench. This locker prevents either wheel from going slower than the ring gear. When unloaded, it allows non-uniform wheel speed to cope with cornering and maneuvering your vehicle. Grizzly lockers are fast becoming the leading automatic locker of choice."

They have way bigger pins than the Loc-rite or the aussi. Thats a big plus IMO.

Maybe you're thinking of the Spartan, which is Yukon's new lunchbox? Comparing the Grizzly to the lockright and aussie is kinda apples to oranges.

I guess I'll be the guinea pig and give it a shot. I'll post up how it goes.

all i can add is that the metals and parts are from overseas (india/china maybe) and it is assembled here. i have no first hand experience with it and have heard good and bad things about it's reliability. i understand randy's warr is good on them though.

grizzly

I have been running one in the front of my spider 9 axle.. seems to be holding up to ls1 and stickys.. we shall see for the long run.. so far so good..

i'm putting one in my hp44 i'm building. it looks to be built better than a detroit but who knows. i'll let ya know when i have some miles on it. it does have a full forged case. the detroit it cast.

some of the guys from tarheel 4wd are running them. and also the yukon zip locker (air locker like arb) with no problems.

Great. This is exactly the type of info I was hoping for. Thanks guys.

we have installed them in about 15 diffs with no isues including PJ's. Im not a huge yukon fan and do not like there gears but the grizzly is pretty stout. I do not know orgin of parts but would assume india. Detroits come from poland so to me its a toss up. the casting on detroits looks like total dog shit, and yukons has a 1 year waaranty which includes labor and incremental damage we have also sold alot of them and have heard no complaints.

the grizzly has suppossed to have designed out detroits biggest flaw the recoil of a shaft break usually breaks the clutch component in the detroit. PJ broke a shaft in his buggy and the unit lived so maybe they did just that.

we have the 44's, 9 inches, toyotas grizzlies in stock. they tell me the 60 is coming soon which ill be ready for. getting replacement parts for a detroit is next to impossible. Buy a grizzly from us and have an issue i assure you it will be taken care of promptly. buy a detroit and im gonna send you to the holy cluster which is Eaton for them to tell you to blow smoke we own the world.

Thanks, Chase. It was actually on your site that I first read about them. I was hoping you would chime in. I'll give you a call tomorrow about bringing my jeep up there for a regear and grizzly for my 44.

I'll follow up on my own question, just in case it might help anyone else shopping for lockers. I picked up my Jeep from Chase this afternoon with a set of fresh 4.88s and a new Grizzly locker in the rear. I must say, I am REALLY pleased with the onroad performance if this locker so far. Its surprisingly quiet and handles predictably. I'm not taking it offroad until the gears are broken in, but I'll provide an update then as well. So far, I love it.
