Oh yeah, I know they're Deeres. They're made by JD, but people say they aren't "real" Deeres.
I will say that, after specing them out, I found that you could get a mower with nominally better components from somebody else for a lower price. The L series motors look a whole, whole, whole lot like badge-engineered B&S motors, too.
