First off, why would you want to remove the evap canister? It stores fuel vapor and releases it into the engine at part load, INCREASING fuel economy. Second off, it's a leak checked part of the fuel system. Just grounding the sensor (if that even works) will only keep the light off until it does a tank leak check. And you can't just plug the hose because you won't be able to fill the tank up. It's the vent for fuel filling. (Traps more of that expensive ass fuel for use in making you go.) It doesn't rob you of any horse power like the 2-3 that the old belt drive air pumps used to.
What year ZJ? If it is first gen you can simply connect all the hoses that went into the evap with a "T" fitting, if the second gen ZJ then you may be SOL
