The shop i work for is looking to upgrade its scanner. We currently have a Snap On MODIS with the latest update but no euro software. We recently encoutered a newer Volkswagon that we could'nt preform a rear brake service on because of electronic parking brakes. The Launch is $3200 from MATCO and the Verus between $8000-$10000 can anybody give me the pro's and cons of each other than price?/

The launch will be great on the euro stuff but will not compare on the domestic and asian stuff. If you guys are up to date on the modis why not just eruo to it for $1295 and be done, its a one time purchase and everytime you upgrade the software it does the euro at no charge...

The other thing to do is call both tech lines and see which is more helpful.... The snapon is in the USA and last time we called for a customer on the launch line we hung up after 45 mins of being on hold...go to diagnostic.snapon.com and take the online training for the verus and see what you think about it before you buy it.

We have had both sales reps for Snap On and Launch come out and answer questions. The launch costs $3200 vs a $1298 upgrade for the MODIS, and the launch will do alot more oil change reset's TPMS reset and goes alot deeper than the MODIS. I like the Verus its a nice tool but is it worth the extra $$ over the launch??

I had a launch diagun for about 4 months. It was horrible, between communication issues, lack of coverage and the communication speed! We used it only on European and Asian. Traded it on a tire changer. Its a cool concept but compared to OEM tools and snap on its not capable. Cardaq is a awesome product and i like the snapon products. But if i had unlimited funds i would buy oem tools and a pico. Gotta have a scope these days.
Just my opinion

i have a verus, solus ultra, launch and a autel maxidas and i will tell you that the launch is the last scanner i will grab. it is dog ass slow and by the time it boots up and loads, i would already be done with any of the other scanners. the autel is relatively cheap (around 2-3000 iirc) and has very good coverage.
if you already have the modis, i would opt for the euro package as long as you don't work on land rovers or jaguars. you can also buy little handheld gizmos(like code readers) that will do the vw brake systems.

To answer your question, you are comparing a scanner(launch) to a scanner, lapscope, total info system that takes you to the proper location for code info(you must have shopkey or mitchell). So look at apples to apples on price.

We have Mitchell and the Verus will take you right to the code and diagnostics for the code. You can access Mitchell through the launch online. Thanks for all the info guys just wanted to hear real world tech's opinions instead of a salesman. I know 2 of you are dealers for each one, but thanks for the info!!

My shop has autoingenuity (sp?) loaded on a laptop. It works on those brakes, service lights on BMWs, and awesome on domestics. I can find and control all kind of things.... I have only used a determinator by matco besides that, and i have no idea the prices. But i figure it can't be too bad since it can be put on a lap top.
