Who makes the best AT for a DD

I just had a tire go bad on my Z71 and am looking at putting some new AT's on it. I want to put on a 285/70/17 instead of the stock 265's. This is my daily driver/ tow rig so I dont really need anything super aggressive. Right now I am leaning towards the Pro Comp AT's but just wanted some other opinions before I dump $900 into some tires that might suck. Thanks for the input guys :beer:
 
I run 285/70/17's on H2 rims on my 2500. BFG A/t's. I love them, wearing great.
 
You can't beat the BFG AT in my opinion, but I've never ran them due to the cost:rolleyes: . I ran a set of pro-comp AT's on my truck and got somewhere around 35K before I cut one and decided to just get a whole new set. I probably could have safely gotten 40 out of them. Rotation,air pressure and alignment can make or brake any tire though.
 
Time and time again, this question always leads to the BFG AT
Although, right now i have MT/R's and they have ~38k on them and look like they could go atleast another 10 maybe 15k before reaching the wear bars.
 
I'm sure you are going to get lots of opinions on this subject so here is mine. I'm on my second set of Pro Comp AT's and swear by them. My wifes DD is a 4runner and they have been on it for 30K and still look new. My DD/tow rig is a lifted F-250 crew cab and I'm on my second set for it. They have worn great but don't expect the full 50K that Comp claims it will get. As heavy as my truck is and I tow alot, I got 38K out of my 1st set. I could have driven a few thousand more but I don't believe on riding on questionable tread. I increased her size from stock to a 265 and my size went from stock/265 to a 285 and I think the ride is great. For under 600$ I don't think you can go wrong with the Comps. I've got the XTerrains on my trail truck and like them as well.
 
Has anyone ever tried the Toyo AT's?? I was reading a thing about how Robby Gordon swore by them on his Dakar truck but I havent ever heard anything about their truck tires, only the car tires
 
Depends on how aggresive you need.
I am in love with a Michelin LTX AT.
I have had 2 sets both go over 80k...but they are not near as aggressive looking as a BFG, and they cost a little more. (Last set was 285/75/16 and cost 1200 including Mount Balance and replacement)

BTW while they dont look aggresive, they do perform surprisingly well. They are no Swamper, Bogger, or Krawler but for getting around grandad's farm and our hunting land they did great.
 
I have run the Toyo At's on my grand.. They suck in mud, load up really bad, don't clean worth a damn, but they are really good in Sand and on the street.


Honestly I have a set of Maxis 750's on my ford expedition and my Jeep Wrangler... They do really great on the road, tons of miles with them, and i have yet to be able to get either vehicle stuck... The jeep has been in mud holes and on the beach with them, and the expedtion has been in muddy fields and on the beach with no problems.. I'm on my second set on the expedition, and the first set lasted 45K and the set to replcae them cost about 460 bucks, keep in mind those were for a 17" rim......
 
I vote for the BFG's. Outstanding snow tire, (Not that we get much, but when we do...) Also looks good, and get tons of miles out of them.

Yeah if i could find the Michelin's in the size I want (285/70/17) then I would just go with them, had those on my old Z71 but it also had 16'' rims....

I am not going to do very much hardcore wheeling in this truck, its mainly on the street with a few trips on the beach and to the camp sites and to pull idiots out of ditches during the few snows we do get... :driver:

I am probably going to get the new tires in a week but right now I am still at the "flip a coin" stage between the ProComp AT's and BFG AT's

I just put NITTO TERRA GRAPLERS on the little ladies Expadition
265/70/17 and I really like them. the best part was the price.
I think they ride better than the BFG ATs that I took off
