been driving on suspended license for almost a year

So i went to the dmv today to get a nc license because i just moved to nc not long ago and have a sc license,and it turns out that my license has been suspended for about a year and suspended from getting one in nc and it turns out to be from a speeding ticket in 2011 . I was said to have never shown up for court even thought i paid $355 (have the cleared check from the bank)to a lawyer to have it all handled . He said i had nothing to worry about and heard nothing else after i left his office so i thought i was fine. But this is the weird part i (which i never did) whent and switched to a public attorney after paying $355 for a lawyer. The women i was said to have hired said we have never met and i would have had to meet her to hire her so she was clueless to,but that's who the da said represented me and they said i never showed up to court. So tommorow morning im going to have a fun packed day at the da office trying to figure out how this all happened and wonted to her what you guys would think.

I was never contacted by anyone about any changes or anything,and never knew till today my license was suspended.

Really? This guy is having trouble with something thats going to be a major pain in the ass to get straightened out and you are worried about punctuation!

Cotyp I've never had this happen but I would say get all the paperwork you can get your hands on that shows you payed the lawyer. Get the ticket, paperwork from lawyer, anything from the court, etc... I would think that if you can show you paid for the lawyer then the fault would be on him.

Thanks and thats probably what were going to try to do and get it all straightened out.

OK so in all seriousness, the problem is that I'd like to be able to help, but it was really hard for me to understand the situation - mostly because it was difficult to parse your sentences and understand what you were saying.
I only meant that as a humorous jab, which in all reality would increase the post count when others quote or make fun of me, which in turn brings in more attraction to your thread, increasing the chances of somebody actually saying something useful.

OK so to stay on topic - do you have anything in writing from teh lawyer saying what they were supposed to do, or that they would represent you, etc?
Unfortunately just having a cancelled check shows only that you paid them for "something"... from the viewpoint of somebody else, that could have been payment for writing a will, representing you brother in another case, or some kind of random sexual favors... need some way to prove what it was for.
 
I was pulled over in Mooresville one time for not having a tag light when I was 18 (funny thing was that I had not installed it yet but had the light in my pocket). come to find out my license was suspended because of an unpaid seat belt ticket, and apparently my insurance had also lapsed (how that happened is beyond me even to this day). the trooper took my license and tag and made me leave my truck on the side of the road and get a ride (luckily I had just left the drag strip and some of my buddies were with me and stopped too). when he took my license, he told me that I was eligible to go the next day and get it reinstated, which I did, then took it along with my insurance paperwork to court with me on my court date for proof that I had coverage, and all was good. everything was thrown out. it's still on my driving record of course, but I wasn't effected by it any at all (no points, etc.). My advice would be to contact the lawyer that was supposed to represent you and see exactly what happened. also, print out a copy of the check that you say cleared to pay for the fees and take it with you for proof. as long as you have the supporting paperwork, I see no issues with being able to get everything sorted out. good luck!

:flipoff2: Well i think it is working and i blame it on all the texting that has made my punctuation/grammar skills go to :poop: when i am typing.

hahahahahahahahah the last part killed me because the guy i hired(the year after i used him) was possibly trying to get a girl to have sex with him for payment.

That is pretty close to my story, now i feel better about how it should go tomorrow thanks.
 
My brothers and I have all had the same thing happen to us, although it was the DMV who messed up. I think they have our last name in my system marked as "fuck with these guys" or something.

I got a ticket, paid the lawyer, etc. Two years later I'm driving from the beach and get stopped in BFE at a license checkpoint. Guess what, suspended license. I explained what happened, was really pissed, and ended up cuffed in his car for driving on a suspended license. :lol: All those charges were dropped and DMV says "my bad!" One more year later and I'm in a minor accident. Guess what, license still suspended! DMV saysx "damn, we messed up again, my bad!" No problem until 6 months later when the police show up to arrest me on a failure to appear charge. Finally got straight though, but was the most annoying few years of driving for me. I'm still paranoid about it.

My oldest little brother had same thing, but his ticket was for a 72 in a 45 so his was worse than mine. Got caught in a speed trap. DMV messed that one up too. Youngest bro got a 96 in a 45, reckless driving, etc. He deserved the hassle the DMV gave him after the lawyer took care of it.
 
My ticket was for a 70 in a 45 and it was a state trooper,so there was no way he was going to be nice about it.But the funny part was there was a guy going the same speed in a little truck and didn't get pulled over.Then when i asked what about the guy in the truck the tropper said this is like fishing,you cant catch em all but if i could i would.
 
I have a failure to appear on my record as well (I think from a speeding ticket that I paid a Salisbury lawyer to take care of for me when I was 18) but have never had any issues out of it, so I guess I'm good. I'm almost 26 now and have had a couple tickets since those days and nothing has ever been said about it.
 
If you hired another lawyer after you hired the one you paid $355 to, then he is free and clear! The public defender you hired is likely the culprit. Get with him and get him to sort it out. Communication and follow up! You should always get paperwork from the lawyer once your case is settled so you have it for your file! Never trust anyone, especially an attorney! :lol:

That is the thing though i never talked to another lawyer other than him, so there is no way i could of hired someone and i definitely wouldn't have changed lawyers after paying $355!!!!!!!
