I only made 1 as a prototype. I use it on the left side.
This wet mowing season gave me so much trouble, I decided to try and force the sticky dirt and grass out of the deck. It doesn't beat around in there at all. Whatever goes in, comes out. It performs too good actually. It creates a ton of wind and it pulls so much vacuum, the grass gets cut almost a half inch lower than the other two.
 
I can see that wearing out the jack shafts quickly. Why not just buy blades designed to create this effect?
 
I'm sure it takes a toll on the spindle but there's only one way to find out how much. I'd be prepared to replace a spindle once every year or two if I could mow non-stop, in any weather.
What kind of blade are you talking about that makes the same effect? I'd love to try it out.
 
I purchased some blades at lowes once that had flares on the back of the blade that made a big difference when cutting tall or wet grass. They were expensive for mower blades, mulching blades. I think they were called gator blades.
 
It just seems to me that those blades would chop the grass up more. Don't you think it would become even more sticky and hang on the deck?
 
They worked well when I ran them. May have been less then what your going through though..
 
Not speaking of mower blades, but my experience with Lowes is low grade parts/material for the homeowner. It's just like Walmart. I buy my soap and paper towels there, but I shop somewhere else for a nice pair of shoes.
 
I've used the gator blades, but only noticed, they work some better, mulching leaves. Didn't find a difference on just grass. David seems to have a good idea, bet you also know, that the way you were cutting, you were forcing the mower to re-cut, & throw the previous cut grass, out, on every other pass. In the case of that field, I would start outside, & continue around, letting each pass cut & throw once.
 
A hyd. Vibrator will work better in this application. Shake that shit loose..
 
Nice observation Rodney. Since you pointed that out, you can see how powerful it is. How it was able to move all that grass, and not clog up.

I just mowed about 3 acres today at my grandma's house with it raining on and off. Surprisingly didn't have anything stuck under the deck.

I recently picked up a 52" Ferris IS700 with a 28hp Briggs Commercial Pro, so the 28hp might help a little :D I cut my back yard the day after I got it in one pass from about 2 feet to 2.5 inches and it was clean and flat. I love a good lawnmower!

On which account? Nothing stuck under the deck or a clean cut with such tall grass?

I was surprised it wasn't caked up, but the blades really move some air and I guess that's what keeps it clean. I kept an eye on it because I had already seen this thread.

Kinda sounds like you just want me to come mow your grass :D
 
If you weren't close to 5 hrs away, I'd probably mow it for you!
 
I like the Ferris mowers. The suspension is killer, but different variables led me to the one that I have.
Both of these mowers have the same blade tip speed at 18,000 fpm. Even though mine has a 61 inch cut, they seem to be very similar. Do you have and images of the underside of that deck?
 
I'll take some for you the next time I'm out at my shop.
