Getting a title for an old vehicle...

You are talking about your jeep cj5 series IIA, right?
Thought so.

You've seen my tube buggy 77 k5, right?

Don't make things hard.

I'm not saying you should do this because falsifying VIN #'s are a huge no no in NC. But since it would only need a safety inspection and most shops just take your old registration and type it in without actually verifying it on the car, I "DONT KNOW" if you could actually get away with it. ;) This one time I heard about someone in Boone who used to have an "'87" 85 Xtra Cab ;);).

Either way you do the title the DMV officer from license and theft will have to search for all the vins and then do a country wide search to see if what you say adds up. If there is one unreadable number on the vin at any location and the vehicle does not seem to be stolen then they will issue a new vin for the vehicle

Problem with his is I would say it was never in the us and a grey market vechile(ie never legal for import) I watched a video where the guys spent huge money and when'd he went to get the us title because the numbers where missing, the gov crushed it.....

thats a bit of a different case though, the vehicle/VIN was blatantly changed so that it would technically meet import requirements.
E.g. its not that he tried to import something that was illegal to import, it was the forgery that got it crushed.
In this case there is no forgery (as far as we know).
It obviously was imported already - it's here. IF the backstory is true, and yes thats a big IF, then chances are good it was brought in by legal means.

Rob contact your local liscence anf theft deptment they are only there from 8 to 10 am on the weekdays they can help issue a new vin....its not that hard. and since its over 35 yrs old no inspection needed.
