We're looking at homes this Saturday, north of Charlotte area, 1hour max from Charlotte. Could anybody let me know how the schools are in that area, I have a 2 & 4 year old. We are mostly checking out the areas and not looking so much at homes yet.

If you look about 30-45mins South of Charlotte you will be in SC. Good schools in SC are located in Fort Mill, some of the best from elem-HS. Also Clover area schools are supposed to be real good as well.
Figured I would toss that out there since you said an hour from Charlotte.
As for what is good in and north of Charlotte I leave that up to those with more knowledge.
I live in Mooresville about 30 mins N of Charlotte and the area up here is growing soo much.... the schools are the best in the area as far as I know. (well about 1000 times better than when I went to school here) the high school (lake norman hight) is brand new and so are about 3 middle schools
my step brothers are in middle school and step sis is in High school.
Only problem is the housing prices are going thru the roof.... average lake lot is $500,000 w/o a house.
I guess you bring in lots of $$ and people with it and the schools get better
Hickory is one of the biggest areas around an hour+ out of charlotte, and none of the schools around here are what I would call "outstanding" but they arent horrible.

My wife and I just bought a place off of Poplar Tent Rd. in Concord. I have taught just north in Kannapolis for that past 10 years and know the schools in the surrounding area very well. I would highly recommend living in an area that feeds into Harris Rd. Middle and Northwest Cabarrus High. Elementary Schools like Odell School and Weddington Hills are also very good. As for the idea of Mooresville... It's never good to move into a school that isn't growing quick enough to keep up. The largest problem is class size. At the rate Mooresville is going the classes will be over flowing and in trailers in no time.
Yea, I dont like big classes, all kids will loose. We're looking at SC and looks sim. to NC in school dept.. With the ice we have up here almost anything looks good.

Statesvilles another option for you. Its another 15 min. north of mooresville. All of the schools are being upfited and remodeled right now. And they are getting ready to build a new magnet school. Cost of living is way less than Mooresville and Concord to.
Doas anybody know about the EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO REPRESENT BUYER form? Mine says i'll have to pay 3% if nobody else does and that I can only buy from that agent.
That's standard for a exclusive right to represent buyer contract, but I wouldn't sign one personally. Basically it means your realtor is going to get 3% of the selling price of the house you buy regardless. Normally, that's paid by the seller's agent out of the total commission for selling the house. But if you end up buying a house directly from a seller or where there is not enough commission to pay your agent 3%, you will end up having to pay the 3% or the difference between what they do get from the seller and 3% of the selling price of the house.
Only being able to buy from that agent means that even if you find the house on your own without any help from the agent, you will still have to pay them 3%, and you can't use any other agent to help you look for a house during the period of the contract.
Make no mistake, it is a legally binding contract if you sign it. They usually have a set term on them. If you choose to sign one, make sure that it is only valid for a specific period of time. (3 months, 6 months, etc.)
As I said, I wouldn't sign one. I would look for a realtor who is willing to help you without one. They do exist, although you might have to look a little to find one.

I'm spending a good amount of money already and didn't need to possibly spend 3% more. The contract also states that i'm still responsible 90 days after expiration.
I'm also looking at homes in Raleigh and SC, besides Charlotte area. That means i would have to pay no matter where i buy.

I've been inspector for 6 yrs, i've inspected everything in, under and over the roads. I'm currently working in New York, NY (since 9/11/), Water mains, Sewer, Curb & Sidewalk, mill and pave and total reconstruction, Street lights and all utilities(electric, gas, steam, telephone, fiberoptics)
