Anyone ever protest excessive work hours. :-)

We've been working 60+ hours towards 70 for 3 weeks going on 4 every single day of the week. So myself and 2 other guys I work with have refused to shave since the beginning of our OT streak until we get a day off. I / myself still have to meet with high profile clients. It's a rule in our handbook that we can't even have exposed tattoos and encouraged to present a good impression for the company. I've been getting some funny looks when I shake hands with a smile. :) It's starting to cover my lips now...

A guy on the other end of the building is refusing to bath. He's starting to get RANK!!!

I've GOT to have my bath... Just wondering if the non-bathing thing for excessive hour protest was common practice along with any other creative ideas? :)
 
A coworker of mine who is also a member of this board hasn't shaved in 1.5 yrs. I'm not sure what he is protesting though, lol.
 
I think not bathing for three weeks is a little extreme, and gross. Not shaving, I see that as a peaceful protest until it gets you fired for noncompliance of the dress code.

Are you getting paid time and a half for your overtime? If so, doesn't sound so bad. I am salary and during our busy times I am at work 60+ for the same pay that I get when I am there 30+...
 
i have been working 60 hours a week for a coupla years now,witch is the least amount of hours i have worked since i was 16 years old.wish i could get out of saturdays but when you work in construction 60 hours is a normal work week. a few months month ago piedmont natural gas had a emergency we had to go to that we ended up working 42 hours non stop on one of the coldest nights we have had. i would be fine with 50 hours a week but don't see it in my future anytime soon. good luck
 
Unless you are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, growing a beard as an expression of working longer hours doesn't really make sense.

Have you seen the unemployment numbers recently? With one out of every 10 people out of work, I think I'd be cautious complaining about TOO much work, unless you are straight salary, in which case I'd be looking elsewhere because at that much overtime, you are getting paid minimum wage...
 
In the finance/accounting world the last week of a month means prepping the books to be closed and the first week of the next month means actually closing them. That's a solid 60-80 hours depending on any hiccups. Quarter end closings means more days and longer hours. Fiscal year end means a solid 2 months of 60-80 hour weeks. We don't get OT or time and half, we work til it's done...which just means our per hour rate drops. There are a lot of times I'd take physical drain over the mental drain.
 
I wish I only worked 70 hours in a week... Ugh. For the last couple of months (since about January, really), its been 80-95 hours a week, usually packed into M-F!

STFU and get the job done! :D However, unless you are on salary, then after about 50 hrs, if you need me I'll call you! :lol:
 
Do the "higher ups" KNOW that the not-shaving thing is specifically in protest to the work hours? If not you're just looking lie ka slacker breaking the rules.

IMO this is a bad idea. There are lots of ways to show your discontent w/o breaking the rules, and if you are in a client-driven position where perception matters (as implied by the dress/appearance policy) you're potentially putting the company's reputation at risk. I'm not one to push for conforming on physical appearance (those who know me or have seen me know) but I understand the importance in has in some realms and some people.

At the least you guys need to be coordinated in your efforts.
 
Been doing this for 1.5 years.
It beats the alternative, and they remind us of that when we complain.

because they know most won't do anything about it but complain, it's the leverage they have.

I would fire they guy not bathing on day two , that's disgusting.

As for working 70+ hours a week, I'm with everyone else be glad your company has the ability to keep you busy. Plenty of people avaliable for any job to replace you.

Work 12 hour days through the week so you get a day off would be my suggestion to boss.

10 hr per day for 30 days doesn't sound rough at all.
 
@6BangBronk I don't know what you do for a living, but if I was a client, I would rather see a representative with an epic beard as opposed to a cleanly shaven girly man.

My buddy Knob quit his last job a few months ago because they tried to enforce the dress code regarding his beard, peircings, and tattoos... and that was before his beard was even out of control. He was working at Cooper Kenworth and went over to Freightliner, he was unemployed less than 24 hours because of his skills and reputation as a tech, so at least he has Job Security but I wonder how far he will go before they get fed up since he does still have to deal with customers/ drivers on a daily basis. I say more power to him, but I figure eventually they will have to draw a line.

Yes... that is a bull ring in his nose, snake bites (I call them ball ticklers to piss him off) below his lip, and a head tattoo..

^^^I would assume he has a very short ceiling and room to grow and is probably on a pretty short leash. I'm not saying it's right...but in most professional settings, that's just the case. Regardless of how good he at his skill set, I'm sure he's on somebody's radar to be out the door ASAP.
