Auto Trans Cooler ????

To all the Auto guru's:
Not new to wheeling just new to auto's.
I want to install an external trans cooler for the auto trans. This is going on a 97 Jeep Cherokee, 4.0L, and AW4 with factory cooler in Radiator.
I already have a cooler, stacked plate style. It measures about 12'' x 18''.
What I need to know is which line is the inlet and outlet, and should I leave the factory cooler in line or by pass it all together for the best cooling. Which config offers the best cooling.

Stacked plate 12x18? Holy crap, that'll getthe job done for sure.

As far as I know, there is no inlet & outlet. It is whatever you make of it.

I'd bypass the factory "cooler" in the rad personally.
 
10-4. Need to know which is the inlet and outlet, so that I can position/ connect it to purge the air out of the cooler.

When you use an external cooler it is a closed loop inlet/outlet doesnt matter.
 
I WOULD keep the inline cooler in the radiator unless the one you're installing has fan in it. A radiator alone can't cool as well as one with a fan drawing air through it.

Doug's been around long enough to know that a radiator of any kind needs airflow to work. I'm sure his either has its own fan, or he's mounting it in front of his engine's radiator.
 
10-4, Rich. Installing it in front of the Aux. fan in front of the rad. Will install a manual switch to control the aux.fan
