time shares...is this a good idea?

We own a couple timeshares, and have no buyers remorse. BUT we have travelling vacations as a priority, you have to use it and be able to plan ahead to take advantage of it. Dylan, if you look at my face book you can see where all we have went in the last few years. Except for 2 nights at Disneyland we have stayed in 1, 2, or 3 bed room timeshare condos. 4 trips to Walt Disney World in the last 2 years all on Disney property for about $750 a week room cost.
But you should send that letter, look on ebay you can get good timeshares for next to nothing.
Go on Timeshare Users Group - The first and largest online community of timeshare owners providing timeshare resort reviews, timeshare ratings, FREE timeshare advice and FREE Timeshare Classified ads! . There are people willing to pay you to take their timeshare (give it to you & pay closing cost).
The annual maintenance fee is what gets most people, and not actually using it to travel.
However if you actually like to travel and do it is a great way to stay in something MUCH better than any hotel/motel room for similar money.

If you or anyone is interested My parents have a couple timeshare weeks that trade in RCI really well (one is Daytona race week) that they are becoming physically unable to use. I would take them but I have all the timeshares I have vacation time for. (PM me if interested.)

Here's what time shares are good for.

Go listen to the sales pitch, Drink the free drinks, Eat the free eats, and take you free Disney passes for listening. Then leave with a full belly and head for The Magic Kingdom.

I'm with AMCJeepman...we own a couple of timeshares and have for 20 plus years. If the exchanges are through RCI, then you will be happy. As James said, you are getting much more than a hotel room for a week (ours are for week usage)....2 or 3 bedrooms with resort amenities. Yes, there is a high initial cost but if you do the math over the next 20 years (or really forever because ours are deeded and I can the ownership down to the kids), it comes out for the good. We have been all over the country using these weeks and have even sold some to friends. If you don't use them, you are wasting your money. If you plan to take vacations, you will love it.

I'd not recommend time sharing the exact same place at the exact same time every year. My sister-in-law does this and when we go down it's monotonous. You see the exact same people vacating next to you and all up and down from you and it feels like you're in the twilight zone with the exact same vacation you had the year before.
We don't go as much to see her during her time any more due to the need of some mix.

What is this "vacation" of which you speak? Sounds like a contiguous week away from work...?
I think it's what the self-employed guys call, "Time when you can't find any work"

I will say of all the sales pitches I've ever had thrown on me the time share guy won hands down. I've never felt more pressure in my life, those guys got the ABC method down...."always be closing". I'm a tough ass sale but they had me actually considering it for about 5 minutes , they have an answer for every doubt/ way out you throw at them.

" Because it's MY MONEY and I said NO ! I don't have to give a reason any more than that. "

When we were looking at campers a few years ago at camper show we got pressured, all the answers answered blah blah blah.

I stood up said exactly that and walked. Can't argue with that. I'm bigger than they are, they gonna stop me ?

Cause only one thing counts in this world: get them to sign on the line which is dotted. You hear me you fuckin' faggots?

Some great lines in that movie.

Someone want to point me towards the booze/food/resort vacation/etc in exchange for listening to a presentation and telling someone "no"? Been trying to figure out how to take one of these trips.

Many Full Moon's ago, I went to a presentation, in Blowing Rock. May have been the First Condos built there, but I was Guaranteed I had won a Prize! All I had to do, was attend their sales pitch. At the end, which I had No means to buy anyway, I Knew Something was Wrong, when told, "You Have to sign Now! You can't go home & sleep on it!" Why couldn't they just Tell me it was a Scam? Then, as I kept refusing, came the Pressure, Belittling, & trying to make Me feel like a Fool! After Finally, getting my $50, 12" B&W TV, I HAD to tell the Hard-ass Salesman, to "KISS MY ASS"!:flipoff:

I was thinking of this aspect in a positive sense...until, on the ride home, I realized that I would essentially be passing down a forever debt of annual fees to my children.

No one knows what the future holds and forever is a mighty long time.

glad your runnin, my parents bought 2 of the damn things in Florida. WTH? Payed top dollar and lost their butts. My mom, after dad died literally walked away from them. THis was after blowing even more stupid money trying to "hire" them out for sale. Between that and my mom's spending since he died it is a wander she's not living in my unfinished dirt floor basement.

It is a "perk" to pay 9% interest on a credit card? If I can't buy it with no interest, I don't buy it.
Compared to most credit cards, that's a fantastic rate.
