Tellico Durhamtown...it gone

Welcome to NC is all I can say... You ought to hear of all the regs around Raleigh coming up soon. It's a nightmare sometimes for developers. The Town of Holly Springs was the first to pass the rule that you can't cut your own tree down (3" cal. or bigger) on privately owned residential land anymore without permits and inspections unless your house was built on a field with no trees to begin with. There's even Details and Specifications on the procedures to do so. Other towns are following suit with their own rules and regs in the making.

This being why with all the big land purchases by developers, the trees and ponds mysteriously disappear before closing.

True that. The FIRST move any developer does is cut all the trees down. That has to wreak havoc on wildlife and water runoff, and just the overall balance of the local ecosystem. Don't know why clear cutting is the go to.

There is a difference in developers clearing land and clear cutting timber. Clear cutting timber if done correctly is a important part of an ecosystem since we no longer let large fires cross the land. But when you don't keep the road ways built up like they should and cut to close to water ways is when you get into trouble.

This saddens me so much. I was out there for the first time in May and had a blast. I was trying to get a trip arranged with some friends, now that's out.

Living here in the US feels a little less "free" every day it seems. When are people going to wake up and realize that freedom doesn't mean full protection of everything. If you want protection, you give up freedom.

Saw this on fb, anyone know if SFWDA is stepping in here to help.

BINGO.

Actually I can argue that clear cutting is the most ecological healthy way to cut timber.

But there are SMZ and other BMPs that MUST be followed.

And not to de-rail the thread but the fire issue is a huge one. Smokey Bear was wrong, Only YOU can postpone forest fires. You cant prevent them. Just look out west. Want an ecological argument, go read up on a table mountain pine.

However the issue is Graham County. This was doomed the day it opened. And Trout and water and the real concern.

Wonder if Trout Unlimited also has a hand in this somewhere behind the scenes....???

No...and TU wasnt the enemy last time. They were the pawn manipulated by the queen.
