Camping at state line in tellico

My group is thinking of camping at the TN State line campground at tellico the first weekend in June. (SE Toyota annual event)

What's involved in camping there? Do I need to make reservations? I called and the national service said they don't handle that campground. First come first served? How much does it cost?

First come first served and unless your buggy is street legal you will most likely get a ticket for driving back and forth to the trails from there. The TN leo's dont play around. We were warned last year on our last day there.
 
Yea, be careful. The TN rangers (atleast the ones i have met) are jerks. They almost gave my brother a ticket because he had his hella 500's on for about 100 yards of paved road. We told him they were street legal and he went on and on about how they were not and he was going to give us a warning. I will do my best to avoid camping there. Ofcoarse this was about 4 or 5 years ago so things could have changed.

There are at least two rigs in my group that aren't street legal. We're hoping to trailer them the last 100 yards to the campground. That will work right?

The other thing that caught my attention was the trail 6 campground. It would be nice to be in the middle of the park like that but I'm concerned that it would be impossible to get the tow rigs to the site.

You could just pull the non-registered rigs behind the street legal rigs with a tow strap when you go through the TN side of Trail 1. That would save you the hassle of loading and unloading the trailer.

We've done that in the past with no problems.

just stayed there .. the sites are huge, they are $20 per night but u can put several ppl per site. u do not need a street legal vechicle to get to the trails. u can ride any vechicle or four wheeler through the campground
 
I got smacked for $150 bucks actually still on the gravel road coming down from 2 to get back on the main road just down from Stateline at the Dixie Run this past year. He got several of us including a few other people on this board.
Stateline was always my favorite place to camp until that point. From now on I will be staying just inside the park right past the pay station or up towards 6 ( you can get any kind of tow rig and trailer up to the river crossing that you want )
 
i talked to the rangers and they said u are ok in stateline.. there is a new sign at the end of stateline going down the paved road that says no ohvs beyond this point. the rangers came by eveyday and we had no problems.
 
Just got back from Tellico. Like 91oneton said, you are OK at State Line. There are signs a little further down that prohibit OHV, non leagal traffic. The sites are large but for $20 you ought to get a shower, not just a pit toilet! The sites a little further from State Line are $10 for the same amenities but you would have to trailer your rig or take a chance. We stayed at Spivey's Cove, 3 miles from State Line, $6, same amenities. EVERY place that people used to camp, junction of 5 and 1, 5 at the river crossing and most anywhere else with a fire pit have been posted NO CAMPING. Rangers are cracking on food left out at camp sites also. Two tickets in our group. Choice depends on whether you have money to blow on State Line or want to go through the hassle of towing, strapping your rig a couple of miles.
