looking at buying a set of chromoly shafts for my hp44....

suggestions?

i was thinking moser. i can't afford them, but i've gotta find a way.

if you have had any experience with front shafts please speak up and let me know whats good, bad, and so forth.

thanks

from what I've read, alloy usa puts out a terrific product with a badass 10yr no questions asked warrantee for a great price. From everything I've read and seen about them, they are who I'll be going with for my wag shafts. I think roundeyes still has a deal going for wag's that is $475 for inners, outers and u-joints. not sure on a hp44 price though.

I've broken mosers, can't say the same about the alloy usa's that are in there now-and they've taken a helluva beating:D

In the same boat, HP44/60 combo. I have 4.10's now, but want to go lower. How are the 5.38's? I have been debating between them or 5.13's. I am running the 4.0 6 cyl, and it seems to have plenty of grunt now, just now enough creeping ability.

thanks for the replies.... so alloy usa seems to be the winner 'eh? even cheaper than moser.... thats a nice added perk as well. and that warranty sounds like a real winner in case i do manage to break them.

i know i'm pushing the hp44 with the boggers on it so i don't want to buy something that isnt going to hold. the only thing that'll really save my ass is the fact that i only have a 4 banger.

as for the 5.38s.... love 'em. only have a 4 banger but i can honestly say that even if i had a 350 in it i'd keep the 5.38's. i love gear and this isn't a highway cruiser.... the difference between 5.13's and 5.38's will be minimal. you should be close gearing with the 4.10's if i recall correctly but the weight of those 38's and axles probably makes a bit of difference...

any suggestions on where to buy?

dc4wd?

I doubt you will find a cheaper price than DC4WD. As for the warranty, is that for stock strength u-joints only?? Or is that with super joints and ctms and whatever else?

i looked into it a little and it looks like if you buy their kit it includes u joints so i'm assuming the warranty would be if using their joints or better like ctm..... i could be very wrong... but i think i remember reading that last night while i was dillusional at 3am on the web.

you get 760's which are covered under the warrantee, IIRC. but the shafts are covered even if you use ctm's, longfields, etc. i'd give a vendor a call to get the whole scoop, though. I know there are a few out there running them w/ lf joints and that's what I'll be using.

hummm, can't seem to find a part number from alloy usa in their HUGE 2 page catalog and summit racing, one of their dealers, shows no information regarding an hp44 axle shaft set/kit.

wtf

Call Butch from four wheelers supply. He is listed as a vendor on here. Very knowledgeable and good prices.

andy is checking on pricing and availability for me now. we'll see.

if he has a problem getting them in time for my upcoming trip i'll see if butch has them in stock perhaps.

thanks!

are you running 39.5 boggers on the 44? hows it holding up? is it locked?

Alloy USA doesn't make em for the Fords yet (at least when I tried to get Andy to order them). I actually picked my chromo's up from Andy but had to get superiors. More $$, but now I have no worries.

keep the boggers and you'll be breaking shafts in that 44 everytime you burp the gas or the tire gets in a bind. I'm not busting you balls, I spent close to $3000 building an HP44 with Cromo shafts and CTM joints. Mine was on 38's with a 6 banger, I broke stuff every time out. A shaft upgrade will not keep the knuckle on the axle either and the boggers will rip 44 ball joints to pieces, just a word of advice. Save your pennies for a 60 if you are wanting to run that big of a tire , I'd never advise dumping more cash into a 44, it's like ordering a bucket of turd polish. Go down in tire size or up in axle. 38x12.50s are the tcket on your set up.

a 39.5in bogger weighs 110lbs, buttttt a 39.5in irok weighs 76lbs. 76lbs is actually less than what a lot of 37s weigh. just something to think about.

yea but unfortunatly i have no cash for a 60 right now and i need to get her up and running. i MIGHT be downsizing tires when i wear these out and if that's the case i'm not going to be AS worried about it as i am now.... but i am worried, which is why i'm not throwing stock shafts in it for my upcoming uwharrie trip. i'm pretty easy on the skinny pedal, and i only have a 4 banger so HOPEFULLY my luck will hold out.

the irok is lighter yes, but it doesn't have that cool thread pattern or make near as much of a roar going down the highway. my mall cruising daily driver needs boggers :) that and they aren't as wide.... i really like the stability i get on road with such a wide tire, and offroad the boggers have served me very well so far.

alloy usa's aren't for my time frame

anyone have experience with yukons? with the 760 joints? with the yukon super joints?

thanks

-Erik

I've had good experiences with Yukon shafts, and the "Old School" Bobby Long joints in my HP44. I've ran them for a long time with 38" TSL's, and I'm now running them with 39.5" IROKs. Like mentioned earlier, I think that I can get away with the IROKs because of their weight. I tend to break hubs on occasion, and driveshafts - not axleshafts.

BTW... Andy sells the Yukon stuff and can hook you up.

farmboy, how hard are you on the throttle?

Ummm...he can break front and rear driveshafts both at once if that tells you how he is on the throttle. He is a little easier on the throttle than me but he doesnt hesitate to hit the rev. limiter.

guess i'm ordering yukon's monday along with my gears and install kit.

anyone have anything to say about their super x joints or whatever they're called?
